MommaBaruu and I decided to give the Cutthroat population at the Berry a workout today... We fished Mosquito Bay for about 3 1/2 hours this morning and exercised 23 Cutts as they fought their way to the boat. All were in the slot with the smallest coming in at 15" and the largest a fat 21". All were very aggressive and got hung up on either black woolies or white tube jigs- being drug behind on a long line rig- @ around 2.2 MPH.
The lake has "turned" and the moss is really clouding up the water, some areas much worse than others, and even a few dead Kokes floating by in all their fall color.
All in all a wonderful day with a good time being had by all...PB

Thanks for the report Papa! Sounds like things worked out well for ya. I'm not really familiar with all of Strawberry and I was wondering where Mosquito Bay is?

Hey TKB
Mosquito Bay is the first bay you come to as you drive into the Strawbery Valley from Heber... Just past the Hatchery where the Strawberry River dumps into the resevouir...all the way around to Mud Creek (see map).
Keep the swatter handy...PB

I also fished strawberry yesterday with DMR and a friend. We were one of the first boats out in the morning and got to see a really nice sunrise. We struggled for the first 3 hours trying to find the fish and find what they wanted to eat. We boated 4 fish from 3 different locations, Strawberry bay not to far from the marina, just south of mud creek, and in what I call Mosquito bay (the small bay between the main marina bay and mud creek. We fished from 20 feet deep to 45 feet deep using tubes, buggers, and bait with very limited success. The lake has turned over and is filled with clumps of moss at all different levels and makes the fish finder almost useless in most areas. Often times the finder would read 10-15 feet deep when the water was 40 feet deep. Too much stuff in the water to find the real bottom. We finally decided to do some trolling over in the meadows and tried spoons and jakes and other things without any hits until we put the fly rods together and threw on a black wooly bugger and then the action was non stop for the next hour and half when we had to leave. Trolled them behind the boat with sinking fly line at about 2.0-2.2 MPH. The fish were smaller than I have seen all year with all of them being cuts and most were 14-17 inches and one around 20 inches. We usually see more in the 18-22 inch range but not this time. One other boat was throwing large white tube jigs and catching a few. It was fun to finally find the fish.
