Invite to fish Redmond Reservoir
#1
TubeDude and I will be leaving the SLC area at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning to fish Redmond Reservoir. Hope to be reeling in some of those toothy northern pike. Pat will be in his tube and I will be fishing from the shore. Another BFT member was going to go with us, but he is ill and had to cancel. If another BFT member would like to take his place send me a PM.

Weather forecast is: "Flurries and a few snow showers throughout the day. High 39F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 30%."

Only 9 degrees warmer than the forecast for Bear Lake, but at least I will have my feet on terra firma, and I will be able to huddle around my heater.

I wish I already didn't have plans...that is one of my planned "conquests". A few weeks ago on the way home from the Elk Hunt, we stopped and fished Redmond for about 2 hours. Didn't have a boat or tube with us, so I just fished from shore. I used a yellow daredevil, and tried some rapalas, but no bites at all. I think my problem was "lack of experience". Please let us know if you are successful exactly what techniques and lures were used.
About Yuba, I stopped there on the way home from St. George 2 weekends ago. I did have my boat with me (I fished Sand Hollow and Quail while in St George) so I launched and my daughter and I spent about 2 hours trolling, jigging, still fishing, and even drug a few flies behind the boat, all with not even a bite there either. It was a warm day, and the water was glass, and I was the only soul in the entire state park! Conditions were awesome, just no fish. I didn't have a fish finder then (I do now, thanks to Sportsmans no tax sale) so I don't know if there were any fish at all, maybe again, I just didn't have the tecnnique. I'm good at that. (not having the right technique!)
Anyway, I'll be trying to shoot a pheasant or two instead tomorrow...good luck, and I can't wait to hear the report. If the report is good, I'll be going there (Redmond) with my boat on Sunday.

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

A tip for catching pike at Redmond--use meat. Float a whole minnow below a bobber.

Thanks, that was my plan. I am going to try some of my salt cured and then frozen chubs/red shiners. To get a little more action on the minnow, I might even try the balloon trick that nomoose recommends.

AHH i wish you 2 were coming down there today, i would have joined you in a heart beat. i have tried twice and got skunked both times, and i want to catch one bad. unfornatuely i have to work tomorrow starting at 7am.

You also can fish whold dead minnows, and use steel leader or really heavy mono, they have teeth and will bite through a line.

Hey i guess we can join you guys there tomorrow! It will be samanthas first time there. My son bruce has been the one with all the luck there. There are channel cats and also largemouth bass in there too. From what my wifes grandpa says the LMB are to far out to be caught from shore.Minnows and anchovies have worked good for pike there. But the anchovies are a little big.Worms have produced the channels even though they are small in size. If anyone can get me 2 bags of shiners i can gladly pay you for it.Please let me know if anyone can by tonight .

Sorry, but I won't be anywhere near a bait shop before leaving. Sounds like Ocean wrote the post, rather than mrs.ocean?

Where exactly is redmond resevoir. I've never even herd of it. If it has pike in it, I'm definately interrested. Do the pike have any size to them or are they just "hammer handles"?

Its in the city of redmond which is about 15 minutes south of gunnison. It has decent sized pike in there but from what i am told by my wifes grandpa they hangout towards the middle of the lake. There are channel cats and large mouths in there but not in quantites want to guess why!The average pike i have caught from shore are between 12-15 inches.Hope this helps.
