[black]I spent the day on Huntington Ice fishing. In about 5 hours I caught 15 fish. Most of them were Tiger Trout.
The ice is around 4-5 inches. There was a guy with a snowmobile riding on the ice. Thanks to him for the ride back up the hill with the gear in toe. The snow is only around 2-5 inch if there is snow. Use a Watta Cricket and a wax worm, I let the pole set and wait for the fish to hit. It was a little windy today; the sun did come out and warm the tent up in-between snow flurries. Over all the first day of fishing on the ice couldn’t have been better.
I have a question about the fish below. Is this a Cutthroat? If so what makes it and what is the up with its bottom lip?
[/black][inline "Tiger with lip.jpg"]
[black]Sorry about the yellow. The sun was out and turned every thing in the tent yellow. Thats what you get for fishing in a yellow tent.[/black]
[black]My buddy also caught a fish I couldn’t identify so I put it back. It was a trout without any color gray with black spots. What other types of fish are in the lake or could it have been a cutthroat.[/black]

The fish is a tiger trout, it is in its mock spawn, it changes much like one of its parents does, i think it is the brown trout dominance in it.
Nice report, how thick was the ice?

Sweet report . Nice to here of some ice to fish . Just wish it wasn't so far . I never fished there before but know where it is . I thought there were cutts in there .
The regs say to release all cutts in Huntington Res.

[cool]Nice report, FishingWaters. THat's music to my ears also. What isn't music to my ears is that Scofield isn't frozen yet. Guess it's gonna be the week after Thanksgiving, so I have to drive further.
Question. My father in law is a little handicapped, and I am taking him ice fishing next Saturday. How far down from where you park do you have to walk to get down on the ice, and is it really steep like at Causey and Lost Creek (by the dam)?

What is the best way to get to Huntington from slc? I drove up that way last year, but never found the lake. Are there any signs or anything? Maybe it was snow covered and I drove right by it. Can someone give me detailed directions. Thanks!

The walk down to the water is really not that bad. No where near as steep at Causey or Lost Creek. With low water, it can be a long walk though. It's kind of a mild incline all the way around the lake. Remember this is a place Petty and myself have let his boat trailer down the hill, and pushed it back up...by hand. So not too bad. Good luck and I hope you catch some fish!
Hey Paul, thanks for the report. Sure gets me excited about some hard water.

[black]It was a Cutthroat he caught. It was a good fighter and it jumped out of the hole when we got it to the top. I was going to measure it but it wouldn’t hold still long enough to read the tape. It was around 14 inches.[/black]

[black]I do have the kitchen sink but I left it home yesterday however I did bring the stove. It only has a 7-1/2 x 7-1/2 foot base and folds down in to a 2-1/2 foot by 3 inch circle. I have fished with 4 adults in the tent but it is a little cozy it’s perfect for 2 to spread out.[/black]

do you know if your fishin over gravel, or rocky area. wondering why the tigers are staging up like that. are you in shallow water. seems weird to have a mock spawn yet not following typical spawn locations.

[black]The bottom seemed soft from the jig. How ever the flash showed a sold bottom which means no weeds. I was in 12 feet of water 1/3 from the dam to the end of the ice at current level or 1/4 of the way when full. About 400 to 500 feet from the dam right in the middle of the lake.

Looks like you had fun up there. I'm thinking of hosting the AAS ice fishing party there this year.

[black]You’ll want to do it as soon as you can because the snow gets deep real quick up there. You also have to hope the wind is not blowing. I’ve never been there when it’s not.

Yeah that's the truth but we still have a couple of weeks of good fishing up there at least. It is a great place to go snowmobiling however. The summer has some great flyfishing in that area.
I spent the better part of my youth of there. So I would love to have the party there

interesting thought. if the tigers are mock spawning there, i think you mentioned you caught a few more in that area. thats definitely a spot where most of the fish should spawn throught the year.

Thanks, Theekillerbee. I'll be sure and report (probably on Sunday, 'cause Saturday night we'll be having another Thanksgiving dinner on the wifes side of the fam).
