Huntington Report
#1
Well, let's just say that Fuzzyfisher did a little (how about alot) better than we did. We fished down closer to the dam, and apparently that was not a wise choice. We saw very few fish come through on the fishfinder. I caught a mighty two tiger trout and TubeDude did substantially better than I did. We moved down where Fuzzyfisher fished for the last part of the day, and we caught a few in that area, but Fuzzy had given most of them sore mouths by then. Here are a couple nice tigers that TD caught:

And proof that I also caught one:

hey tubedude I'm not sure how to take that invite. [cool] lol..
it was great to meat you!! i have admired your fishing skill's and knowledge for a long time.. your wrighting skill's are even sharper then most the hooks i use..
next time i invite you to fish E-lake.(when it ices up) you will find the fishing alot faster there..

and i do have to say i fish huntington alot so had a big advantage.. in trolling the lake over the summer and finding some of the places the fish hang out.. the area i was in is where we were catching most the bigger fish when we were trolling this summer.. but the water has gone down alot from then..

one more pice of knowlage i will share with all on Big fish for fishing Huntington.. a fish finder is a must!! check a spot for about 15min's if you do not have a school of fish come through the area in that time move.. try deeper and shalower water.the fish are in schools right now and if your not in a area that they are comeing through your not going to do as good. so check out a area but dont get into the mind set that all you have to do is set and wait for the fish to come to you... sometimes you got to find the fish!!
and try diffrent bait.. worms, waxworms, millworms. minnows.. some days the fish will be in the mood for a certain kind of bait.. yesterday was millworms but tomorow it might be waxworms or minnows..
the best colors i have found is white and charteuse in jigg's
spoons a gold kastmaster tiped with meat..
one last thing about huntington is it one of the most jekyl and hide lake around here one day the fishing is none stop the next day nota.. so rember that it might not be the way your fishing it might be the fish!!

[size 1][#0000ff]"Sure glad you brought your power auger. Too bad it wouldn't start. Ain'tcha glad I decided to bring my ice grinder "just in case"?" Some guys just have no sense of humor. Just because I hauled my almost-new power auger out on the ice, (which started fine the night before at home) and it won't start the guy gives you a rough time. My shoulder hurting today is a testament that I gave a valiant effort trying to get it started.[/#0000ff][/size]

Hey can you use a manual auger on huntington? How deep is the ice have to be before you have to use a gas powered auger? And how much do they run?

The ice is at most 4 inches thick -- ideal for a manual auger. A young guy like you should have no problem with a manual auger until the ice gets 10 inches thick or so. Just remember the larger the auger the harder they are to turn. I wouldn't go any smaller than 6 inches though.

Looks like you two did alright for the first ice trip of the season Well,,,at least ya came up with dinner.

Pat; whats this, "long hikes across ice, and, hand augers". Pat my friend its turn, you were in AZ far to long because they now make machinery for those tasks. The toughest thing about Ice fishing should be strapping down wheeler or sled to the trailer once the days done.[Wink]

Just pulling your legs guys! My I'm jealous!!!!

Guys its great to see theres a few left in the lake and I'm glad to see you two iced a few. Gives me hope.

Kent; Great to see you nailed your first Tiger trout. Hopefully I find my way to Huntington soon and do the same.

Btw, did anyone mark Fuzzys hot spot with GPS[Wink]

The power auger has been repaired. Great to have a mechanic buddy who will fix things even on Thanksgiving! Took him all of less than five minutes to get it running.

I know what ya mean about keeping them running. Those small 2 cycle engines are simple but can be a real head ache now and then and sometime need a bit of tweeking. I wandered out to the shed and drag my old gal (my old Mag III) out today. To my surprise I'd forgotten to drain the fuel at the end of last season but to my pleasure it fired up on the third pull and purrrred pretty well for old fuel.

As far as Ron marking his spot, thats OK, I can manage without it. Besides old dogs always mark their trail, it helps us find our way home. [Wink]

Man you guys are lucky. All the southern lakes can't seem to keep the ice. Oh well I was spooled last year fishing early November.
