Huntington on turkey day morning
#1
Found some mealworms last night thanks to HA69 and headed to Huntington this AM. Arrived at 7:00AM to partially cloudy skies, 29 degrees, and a very light w... Headed out by the dam into about 11 feet of water. Four of us including myself, my dad, my brother (DMR), and my brother in law, started out using foxeys and paddlebugs in both chartruse and white colors. We tipped with mealys and seemed to help to use some smelly jelly attractant. Foxeys seemed to do the trick better than paddles. We had many, many hits that we missed and lost several at the ice hole but managed to land 14 nice size tigers between 14-17 inches in 3 hours of fishing. The weather was very pleasant and even seemed warm toward the end. My mom told me to never talk to strangers but when bugling4bulls came up and said "I noticed your BFT sticker on your sled" I figured that no BFTers were strangers so we invited him to fish with us. It was nice to get to know him and spend a little time drowning a jig together. Too bad the fishing had pretty much shut off by 9:00AM when he showed up. He was kind enough to take a picture of our group with our fish. Helping out a group of fishermen with a picture almost cost him the ultimate price of loosing a rod down the ice hole but his diving hook slide and quick grip saved the day as his reel was disappearing down the hole. And for those of you asking yourself (Self- did he catch the fish that almost stole his rod?????? No, the fish was gone but a wise fisherman knows it is better to lose the fish than the rod. It really was the best intertainment of the day. Thanks B4B for joining us this morning. The drive from the lake down to fairview was amazing. As I sit here rubbing my overstuffed belly I am feeling very satisfied and thankful on this thanksgiving that we has such a fun fishing trip on the ice this morning. It was a good way to start off the ice season. Can't wait for scolfield and then strawberry to get hard!

MGB-
Worth the trip up there. Its not hot and heavy how it was for you and petty at the berry the other day but still very fun. B4B said he was related to you and said you were quite the fisherman and I would have to agree from the posts I have read from you. When you make it up there give him a bad time about almost loosing his rod down the hole. Have him demonstrate the diving hook slide to save the pole. LOL I don't know if you are a fish eater or just C&R but the fillets from those tigers are bright orange and look like they are going to taste excellent! After fishing Strawberry so much its kinda weird to even take a fish home. Good luck!

Fished Huntington today ,met bigcat and his family. after the photo session and the diving/hook slide save on my ice rod, I caught 4 nice tiger trout in about 20 min. was using white foxees with millies, went back up this morning, got there about 7:45 a.m., it was snowing, and the wind was blowing pretty hard non-stop,lasted until about 11:45 before I had enough (of the weather ) of course. caught-11 on the same stuff. there is also 4-6 in. of slush for about 10 yards or so , I would recommend wearing waders or a knee high pair of water proof boots. this is my 4th year doing this on thanksgiving man its great!!!!! [black]Sounds like Huntington[/black][black] is getting hit hard but the action seems to be picking up. Last Saturday I was getting hit ever 10 - 15 minutes now you can get a fish every 5 minute. Hope it last until next Saturday for HFT Ice Fishing class.[/black]
