Ice on Matt Warner

The ice on Diamond Mountain got thick enough to walk on last weekend. Very hot ice fishing for fat bows and some brookies at MW. You can still drive in but the next big snow storm and it's snowmobile only.

[cool]Hmmm...that's funny, I thought I read something on the DWR's website the other day that Matt Warner was CLOSED to fishing because of some bacteria or toxicity in the water or fish (can't remember exactly which).

According to the DWR fishing report this lake has been reopened. It doesn't say when it was reopened just that it is.

Matt Warner reopened back in October. It was a blue green algae bloom. It killed some cows that were drinking from the lake at full bloom. They just happened to drink where the algae piled up from the wind. It was aggravated by the drought. It didn't kill any fish. The bloom happens every year and hasn't been a problem until there was an unfortunate combination of circumstances. It is a very good trout fishery for those who have never tried it.

Thank's for the update bro. Didn't you take a under water picture a few years ago of a rainbow at MW at was too big to get threw the ice hole. Do you know if Calder is still empty.

Hey Tin,

I did have some under ice shots there, but just regular bows. They didn't come out that well, but it was fun (see attached pics). Calder and Crouse are still drained, but it's shaping up to be a good water year out here. With any luck they'll be back on line next year. Talk to you soon Billy.

Hey Kent,

I have an underwater digital camera made by Reef Master. It's a lousy camera with low pixel count. I got it for the wet environment of my yaks. It cost a lot and I'm not happy with it. The underwater pics were from drilling an extra hole and shoving my hand and camera down it when I'd get a bite. It hurts your hand a lot. I'm going to use the waterproof disposables from now on.
