Bear Lake Report
#1
Current update on Bear Lake.

I just got back a few hours ago. No fishing for me! [Sad] I spent the whole weekend moving snow! Garden city area had 8-10 inches on the ground already when I got there friday night. Saturday was spitting snow all day. Then Saturday night we got another foot at least. My flippen back is killin me!

The whole shore line is covered in the stuff. We need the moisture bad but this will definitely make getting the cisco alot more difficult without a snowmachine.

As for ice conditions.... NADA, NONE, ZILTCH!!! Waders and snowmachines if you are planning on getting cisco.

Launch capabilities.... As of today there is no where to launch a boat unless you can trailer it behind a snowmachine.

Thanks for the report. With the cisco run fast approaching I am sure the state will be moving some snow fast for eveyone.

Thanks for the report Pat, I didn't read anything about the state park marina. Can I assume there is open water but too much snow on the ramp to launch a boat?

WH2,

The State Park marina is the only place you can ice fish! I would doubt that you could even break thru it now.

What about that ramp on the East side, do you know if they were able to repair it after that storm washed the gravel away? I remember reading a post from BLFG that said they were doing to try and repair it but I don't remember how that went. In the years before 2004, when there is no ice for the cisco spawn, a lot of use would jig for them on the rock pile. In past years Blue waters, the old Sweetwater, condo area use to allow people access to their beach, they even plowed a road to the beach, I wonder if they will do that again this year? I've taken a small boat out and launched it there when I couldn't get on the water any other way and didn't want to wade the waters on the East side. I guess we will see how that goes but a week from today I'm going to give it a try, one way or the other. WH2

I was also up to Bear Lake this weekend. Arrived Friday with at least a foot to 18 inches on the ground. I was at My place in the Sweetwater trailer park. I woke up Sunday morning to another 18" to 2' of additional snow. I spent the next two hours that morning digging out to get my truck out. With the forcasted continued snowy weather, You will want at a minimum of 4 wheel drive and good tires to go up for the cisco run. I don't think your going to have much luck with launching a boat from any beach right now without a great deal of work carrying it over waist deep snow. Mother nature has given us more snow in the valley than I have seen up there in a few years. It will help bring the lake up this spring. I would go up planned for the worst and hope for the best. They are really good up there about getting snow out of the way to get parked. not sure what they will do for the eastside for the cisco run. I don't see them plowing that area out for parking. hope I am wrong.

WH2,

I would say boat access is not possible. The launch area on the East side was repaired but is buried in snow, The Ideal Beach condos plowed access last year, not sure if they will do it again. I will check next weekend.

RILEYFISH,

I have a place at sweetwater trailer park as well! drop me a pm sometime and we can talk.
