Southern creeks
#1
Hey folks, I'm kinda on this southern kick now and I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on creeks like Clear Creek, Salina Creek, or any other little fish hangouts like that. I live in Salt Lake so I'm trying to beat cabin fever and get out and fish some waters I've never fished before. I fished a little creek outside Kanosh last weekend and had a really good trip and I'm into the one time trips where I hit the water and take home pics and memories. I catch and release so you don't have to worry about me fishing out your creeks and keeping all the fish. Any info would be appreciated. If you would rather PM me than post, please do. I'm just looking for a good little trip, one day, max three hour drive, just to sightsee as much as catch a mess of fish. Thanks in advance.

Salina Creek and Clear Creek are probably not very good bets this time of year...both get pretty icy. Clear Creek right now is running pretty high and muddy from recent rains too. My suggestion right now for southern streams would be the Sevier River in Marysvale Canyon...I have been fishing it frequently the past month with good success using bead headed prince nymphs fished slowly through the runs.

Is that the section that runs out of Piute Reservoir? How long would you guess that to take from SLC?? I live out on the western edge of the city.

yes, it is the section that runs out of Piute Reservoir, but it is a little ways downstream. The section I fish is about 1-2 miles upstream from where Clear Creek enters the Sevier. It would probably take you about 2 hours from Salt Lake to get there.
