GOT LEECHES??
#1
OK HOW MANY OF YOU HERE IN UTAH USE LEECHES? I was thinking about ordering some in march to try this year for the eye's and smallies. I want to use them on a lindy rig and slip bobber's. I will more then likly order around 3lbs or 4lbs with about 10 dos a lbs should last all summer. so maybe if someone wants to in on some PM me and I'll send you a link to see where and how. They take a bit to keep up but I think it will be worth it.

so what all do you think about it? and why?

[cool]I've never used any, Norm but I'm pretty positive that you would kill the trout in the Weber, Ogden, or Provo (where bait is allowed, that is) as there are lots of leeches in those rivers. If you got some black colored ones, you'd probably nail the cut's at the berry after ice off too! As for the Walleye and Smallies, I guess they'd probably like that too, but I'm not much of an expert on those two species yet.

hey nomoose they would work just about any where you fish with them..
the other day at the secret spot one of Al's boy's was smacking a trouts head on the ice to kill it and a big ball of leeches came out it's mouth.. we put the leeches on our jig's and had some fish on shortly after.. so they will work most any where and any time of the year i think..

dude on fish?

I can't wait for Cabelas to open their point of the mountian store which is practically in my own backyard, so I can get leeches anytime I want! They sell them all the time and is readily on hand.

Hey paul. will they have them for sure? I hope some. but this year I can't wait until they open to get some thats why I'm getting them in march and putting them in the fridge. I know lots of guys say just use a worm but I want to get into some walleye tornys in the mid west some time and need to learn how to fish with leeches to fit in back there. plus I have used them before here when I have got them out of the berry and hooked the crap out of all those trash fish "oh I mean trout" up there. lol

Hey Norm i used leeches years ago.I used them at yuba and starvation for the eyes.I personally did not see any difference between leeches and worms exept that they are a tougher and reusable bait unlike worms.I used them bottom bouncing but the best way they would work for me for walleyes i would find a good spot and then i would freeline it.Sometimes add a split shot for some weight on windy days and on days with glass water no weight. And as soon as the line stopped or took off bam ! Walleye for dinner! Personally to me they are worth the money but do take a little bit of maintenace changing the water without killing them! Also they stink your fridge up if they happen to spill.

thanks I kind of forgot about that way. I have a spinning reel mad just for that. so I'll have to try that with them. heck thats the way Ilike to do it with worms and it works so why not.

When I trapped muskrats years ago, there was a ditch that had a bunch of leaches in it. the muskrats would have leaches all over them. you might want to try dropping a piece of meat in a ditch somewhere, tied to a string. it seems like there was more leaches in the ditches that had that water crest or weeds in it. Just something to think about instead of buying them.
