Mantua suck's report
#1
Went out to Mantua this a.m. Wasn't very impressed. I really don't know what all the fuss is about with that place. Maybe it's good for largies in the summer, but the ice fishing sucks. Fished from 8-1:30 along w/ my brother and his dad in law, and sister in law up from Hurricane. I had 4 bites all day, and one 10.5 inch Perch to show for my efforts, the other three had one bite total, and no fish to show for their efforts. Didn't see anybody else around us land a fish, but maybe some actually did.

At least I can say I finally went to Mantua, but as far as I'm concerned, "been there, done that."[pirate] We went to Mantua instead of the decent Percheries (Echo or Rockport) because my bro's in laws drove all the way from Hurricane last night to Mendon (Cache Valley), and didn't want to make them drive further today. At least the weather, scenery, and company was great[cool]!

Ice was 6 inches and very safe. Can't wait to hit Rockport this week. I had a feeling it would be walkable today!

[black]I had the same kind of luck yesterday on Mantua. Something to be aware of is that the back of the inlet does not have 6" of ice. I drilled a hole in one place and it was 1-1/2" thick so be careful.[/black]

[cool]Yikes! Glad I wasn't there, although I've heard the fishing is good over there, but I've also heard that's where a lot of the bubble ups are? We were about 1/4 of a mile out from the boat dock things. Didn't see any ramp there. Makes me wonder where they launch from? Maybe it was just buried under the snow.

[black]The ramp is of 50 yards south of the docks. It is covered with snow.[/black]
