Moab and the almighty Pike!!
#1
I'm headed to Moab the first week of March and I am looking forward to fishing the Colorado River. I know there are catfish but I am really interested in fishing for Pike.

I've never fished for pike, and I'd be interested in any tips, tricks, or techniques from anyone who's caught them in the Colorado River. I've gotten and I am currently reading a book on Pike and it's been helpful, but frankly I would rather have info from someone who's caught them out of Moab.

You may want to drop nomoose a PM. I'm not sure if he's fished for Pike down there, but he is pretty good at catching those toothy critters!

BTW, welcome to BFT!

Never fished the Colorado, but would like to fish for catfish or pike down there sometime. As far as what to use I would think you would target them about the same as Tiger Musky. there is a bunch of people on this site that could probably help with Pike lures and presentations. Good luck, let me know how it turns out!

I have never fished for pike in the colorado, but i thought that they were trying to remove the pike and bass from the colorado because they were endangering some of the native species, now i may be way off or it may be someplace further upstream, but if they are in there and you do go after them i hope that you land some monsters, pike are a blast to catch.

I dont know about down there. but I'd bet there are one or two. if you want to fish for pike in a river, fish the green around jenson utah. or fish the sevier river from around redmond to delta with the best being just as it goes into yuba. if it was me going after them on the colorado I would try a big dead minnow that way I could hook a big cat maybe also. or try a j11 rapala or bigger mepps spinner. hope this helps and give us a report on how it turns out.

PS they do have pike that have made it to lake powell that came from the green so they mave have also gone up the colorado to moab

I know that recapture reservoir has some pike in it down there. We caught a few 20 to 30 inch ones just using a jake's lure from the shore. We didn't really know what we were doing so I don't know if we just got lucky or if we were using the right thing.

That would explain the absurdly high bag limits for the Colorado. 24 Channel Cats 12 Pike.

Hopefully there will still be plenty of these "evil" non-native sports fish in the Colorado for when I go down. Fishing is going to be the only way to salvage an otherwise dull family reunion.

i dont know about the pike, but when i go down there for the easter jeep safari, if i am not wheelin then i am fishing... and the cattin down there is mad crazy! most of them are around 1-4lbs. with some lingering above 6 or 7lbs. but dont be fooled, i have been busted off with 20lb test a couple of times( wich may have been pike) but i doubt it. but there are so many that its hilarious. we also fished the green which is about 20 miles west of moab and the cats are tiny itss boring you catch so many. when i fish the colorado i use half peices of chubs and i just bounce them thru the holes, all i use is a 1/8 ounce split shot and a #2 octopuss hook. i hope that i have been of some help, if you want some info on spots just shoot me a pm!
