My brother and I hit the lake about 7:30 until 2 and loved the sunny weather. Was a nice day without the wind. The fish finder showed fish everywhere until the sun reached us about 8:45 and then it really slowed down. Picked up again some after lunch but nothing like in the morning. Never found any one color, jig, or bait that really knocked them dead. Did the best with a small white glow jig with a wax or meal worm on it but we caught fish on everything we put down the hole eventually. Most were in the 11 to 14 inch range. Fishing was slow and the fish were smaller than years past but had to be one of the nicest days I've ever had at Scofield with the nice weather and all the families we saw enjoying the day.

hey spyder-
nice report... I am taking some older scouts up for some fun on the ice and was wondering what the ice/snow conditions were as far as 4 wheeler -snowmobile access. (is the snow deep or any heavy slush on the ice). we would like to motor some equipment across the lake by way of sled and motorized vehicle, any suggestions would be helpful-
thanks...PB

Papa, You might want to check my Scofield report from Thursday. I talked to a guy that got his 4 wheeler stuck. The slush wasn't bad where I was but apparently was in other areas of the lake. The snow was deep enough everywhere that I doubt a 4 wheeler would work up there. The snowmobiles would do great though. I hope you have fun. I had good action on Thursday. Kastmaster might bring up his scouts to Scofield as well next Saturday

I was there on Friday, and the slush was too much for the wheelers that I saw. We watched a 6 wheel Polaris get swamped the instant they got it on the ice.

Thanks for the updates fellers... that helps alot- looks like we'll take the snowmobiles and leave the wheelers behind.
I'll also check out your earlier posts for more tips...PB

I don't remember seeing any 4 wheelers anywhere on the lake but I don't think they would have done to well on the crust. We walked across the crust just fine and there were snowmobiles everywhere on and around the lake. You never know how much it will settle in a week but I'd take sleds if you have access to them. There was a group that looked like a scout group by the ranger station. Don't know how the fishing was for them but sounded like they had fun. My brother wanted to go see what they were cooking on the lake. Hard to say just how deep the ice was as you drilled through the crust and then dropped down to the actual ice. Was over 2 feet of drilling though.
