Monday at Bear Lake - Good Fishin'!
#1
No cisco are coming in along Cisco Beach as of this morning so that may be a few days off yet. The launch ramp at Cisco Beach is useable, but be cautious. You will back your trailer down over the edge of the concrete and there is a sizeable (12") drop-off. When you go to pull your trailer back out use 4-wheel-LOW gear to "creep" it back over this ledge or you could literally rip off the trailer axle. As BLM mentioned the other day its fine for smaller boats (16' and less in my opinion) but larger, heavier boats are going to have a hard time getting back out.

We fished the rockpile today for cisco and it was great. Two of us limited out on cisco in about 1.5 hours. Plus we picked up one 21" cutt that was literally stuffed with 7 cisco which then nailed my jigging spoon. We checked several other boats and everyone was doing about the same. The fog was so bloody thick the ONLY way to locate the rockpile was to use a GPS unit. I wouldn't suggest going out there without at least a compass. If the wind came up and you didn't know which was shore was, you could end up as new fish habitat on the bottom! BE CAREFUL. Still an incredible amount of snow on the lake shore an really no place to launch outside of Cisco Beach. The State Park has talked about shutting off their deicers in the marina since they couldn't make any head-way the last few weeks. The marina looks like it is done for the year!

I agree the bubblers won't make any head way if it stays cold and windless. But with it getting warmer in the afternoon all we need is a good wind and the open water by the bubblers would open up the marina. I've seen this happen many times before. If they shut off the bubblers and the marina gets a good cap on it it won't open up until March. If the lake doesn't freeze I'd sure like to be able to get out as soon as possible. I'm sure all the year passes we buy and rising cost of launching or even parking at bear lake would more than pay what little electricity they use. Just my two cents.

I think Jeff is right about the deicers, the weatherman is saying the temperatures this week are going to be above normal. That might be all it takes to break up the ice in the marina, I sure hope they give it at least another week before they make the decision to shut them off or not.
Hey Scott what time did you launch and get over to the Rock pile today? When we arrived this morning a guy was stuck in a two wheel drive truck, trying to launch a pontoon boat. We stayed on the east side with five other boats, it was a calm day but no cisco were caught. We seen one big school go by on the finder that were probably cisco but we saw no fish next to shore. We caught two cutts and at least one of the other boats in the area caught a fish but it seemed like a slow day for most of us. I'm glad to hear you got into the cisco, were there many boats fishing the Rock pile today? Thanks for the report. WH2

You guys might be right! The weatherman has predicted a warming trend but then you are talking about the Bear Lake Valley. They have three feet of snow on the ground so if the inversion sets in they will only be in the twenties during the day and in the single digits at night. Cache Valley today was only about 33 degs. for the high and last night we were about 10 degs. for the low. So, If I were a betting man I would say unless you get a warm front and some wind don't look for Bear Lake to warm up any time soon.
