6 fish isn't a bad day for Daniels. Allthough the size sounds a little discouraging. That place used to produce some real mags. Not that there's anything wrong with 18" trout, but anyone who has fished there in the past knows what I'm talking about.

We fished Daniels a couple of weeks ago. We did about the same. The jig of choice was green. When you do catch a fish you really know it. What side of the lake were you on? We fished the side the road was on. Daniels is up in Idaho by just outside of Malad. I cant wait to get up there again.

We also fished the road side in about 23 ft. of water between the 2 parking areas. As far as the fish it is a little discouraging but I think I caught even smaller ones last year.2002 we didn't catchmany under 20. Wonder what is happening?

I fish Daniels a lot during the soft water season out of my pontoon. I to have noticed a decline in the quality of the fish. I talk to a lot of anglers up there from all over. The general consensus from them is that the "ice-fishermen fish illegally (bait), and are taking the fish out." I know that those kind of people don't contribute to this site, but I do know that it happens. Hope we can help stop it. Jake

Here is an interesting story I heard (second hand) from a fish cop up there. He had been watching a ice fisherman baiting up from a distance and then proceded to go and collect a little money for the great state of Idaho. But as he got close the guy threw his pole in the hole. I think he got ticketed anyway. At least I hope so.

I do not know why people do it?! Its just not worth it. Fish cops are not dumb. My buddy was at Strawberry last week and was checked. He said the guy came out of "nowhere." The cop told him that he had been watching them for over 2 hours through the binos. I am fine with that, if you have nothing to hide there is no problem. Jake

There are still plenty of beasts in Daniels. They have planted quite a few fish the last couple of years, and are the majority of fish being caught (14-18"). Time of day, location, and plenty of other factors are key in catching what Daniels is known for. Give these small fish a year and they'll be Daniels quality. That res can produce big fish very fast.
