I'm no expert on Blue lake but I've fished it several times and I've never seen them there. That water is so clear that it would be hard from them to hide but you never know. WH2

I would think that if they are there, they would be in the bluegill ponds that are really kinda murky but the lake and the outlets for the most part are crystal clear and the previous poster is right, if they were there, they wouldn't have much chance of survival. That bottom is all pretty much sand and silt and not much rock for them to hide around and under. Guess its time to drop a chicken bone or two and find out for sure....

I'm thinging much the same, RiverRat. There is quite a lot of cover in the bluegill ponds for them to hide in, but I just don't recall ever seeing them. I do believe I will drop in some meat and see what happens this weekend though, and I'll let you all know what turns up.

if your talking about blue lake, just south of Wendover, I have snorkeled / scuba'd it from one end to the other. I saw no evidence of crawfish.

I've done some scuba diving in the lake a few years back, and yea their are some decent size bass, they seemed to be long and on the thin side. Seemed like the average size of the bass was about 14'', I saw a few that were skinny torpedos at around 18'' long. There is also a good number of what I think were crappie. The crappie were always schooled up in deeper parts and by the docks. and the bass were usually hanging out shallow. There is an overturned boat on the north shore that 's were I saw the biggest bass. I really wish I had my fishing gear, but I was told before I went that there was only small minnows in there. Yea right!

Hey Buckfever. Thanks for the info.
You have described the bass I've caught out of there to a "t"...long and thin. Nothing like the footballs I've seen out of Powell, or Jordanelle, for that matter. But, they fight good. I've heard rumors of "huge" bass in the place, but have yet to see anything that would fit into that category. Anybody have a pic of a 4+ pound bass caught out of Blue lake? I'd love to see it.
The smaller fish you saw were Bluegill. I've also noticed that the 'gill fishing is much better in the ponds surrounding the main lake. Only caught a few in Blue Lake itself.

Thanks again for the info.

There are no crawdads in there. I've soaked minners in the blue gill ponds for huge bass, and I've never had one eat it. Plus the blues in there would kill em quick.

The Gills in the main lake are very, very easy to catch right at first light. Right off the dock, soak a worm down on the bottom. I always limit out right there. I've seen some two pound gills right there, too. You will not catch em by just casting. Sight fish and I guarentee you will.

I've got 5 bass through my house that are all over 5# from blue lakes. Sorry, though, no scanner or digital camra. My computer decided to wipe out my windows wednesday and took my scanner with it.[Sad]

I dove there a few times also. I've not seen crawdads or any fish of size. The small fish (I am not sure what kind) like to eat cheeze whiz from your hand. But, that lake is anything but clear. I've heard it can be sometimes during the winter, but each time I have dove there, visibility is about 15 feet. I got lost once (dis-oriented) at 50 feet. Wasn't sure which way was up or down. I watched my bubbles go up so I followed them. At 20 feet, the water got lighter, and I knew I was headed in the right direction. Talk about almost panic. Over towards the dock there is a rope that runs along the bottom towards the north. The sides were gravel along that edge. Out where the boat is sunk, at about 60 feet, it is sandy silt. A few weeds growing a foot or so up from the bottom, but very sparce. The springs are cool to look at. I've been told that you can actually hide in them.

Them big fish in there hold away from the scuba divers. Big old bass get pretty spooky around them.

And that lake is relatively clear. If you can get away from the scuba divers. Case and point is that the creek running out of there is crystal clear as far down as you can go. And before the divers get in there you can see 20 feet down. 10 years ago while my dad, uncle and I were night fishing out there I casted out one of those glow in the dark bubbles. A bass grabbed it and I could see that thing going all the way down. Pretty awesome sight for sure!
