i fished the rock this morning with a friend, i fished the last outhouse turn off, in about maybe 25 ft. of water. the action was tremendous!!! never had perch fishing like this!! it was non stop. everything i put on i caught fish on. i was playing around, kinda tryin to prolong my time there before i got my limit, i was looking for something in my box that they wouldnt hit. i caught a perch on a 3/4 ounce castmaster, i caught them on paddlebugs, jiggin rapalas, swedish pimples, tubes, maribou jigs, curly tails, foxys, i even caught a perch on a 3 inch glo tube jig!!
most of the perch were 6-9 inches but i got at least 15 that were between 10-12 inches. the one in the pic is 12 inches, and the trout is 16.
the trout werent very abundant today, we only caught 3 ( 2 bows and a brown) but maybe thats because the perch didnt give them a chance. the trout were caught on ratfinkis or ice flys. green has been the color up there this year for me. I am headed up there on sunday as well, any fellow bfters gonna be hittin the rock tomarrow?? i will be on channel 12!!
all fish were caught right on the bottom, and we used wax worms for the first few fish, the rest were caught on perch meat. oh and i didnt know that there were chubs in rockport?? kinda surprised when a 7incher came flopppin thru the ice.
Ps.. has anyone ever caught a whitefish thru the ice up there?? i know they are in the weber... just curious..

Hi Utcatman. We were on the East side this morning. We didn't have near the success that you did. I talked to Kastmaster on the radio, but I couldn't get any other BFTer's to answer back. I don't know why we didn't do as well as we have in the past. We had to move a lot to find the perch. I think that the area that were fishing in has been pounded over the past couple of weeks. We will try a different area next time, DKS.

I was pretty close to the area where I was in last week with doggonefishin, in both times, the action was pretty close to non-stop. The size was a little better today, with more fish in the 9-11" range. I ended up having a family of three (Grampa, son, grandson) join me in the spot that I was in coz they needed to use my auger, and saw the action that I was in. I said the more the merrier. They were catching them on crawlers and pretty much all good-sized fish. You'll have to join us on the west side sometime.

Hey Utcatman,
I was there this morning in the same area and I had the same action. I was fishing in 33 ft. of water pretty much straight out from the outhouse about 200 yards or so. Were you guys in a tent, or were you out like most of us?

Sounds like you had a great day! I'll be up there on sunday, I have always done good out there by that outhouse! Watch out for the fish cop though, even when your totally legal he seems to like giving people a hard time up there, he's nagged on me twice already this year! [unsure]

Also went up to Rockport today w/ my boy. We fished the last turnoff on the West side about 200 yards out.
We had pretty good luck. We fished from 12:00 til 4:00 and caught 15 trout and 2 perch (I'm glad, I was going for trout). All trout were caught off the bottom in 25 feet of water and were all about 12 inches.
Had some real idiots fishing about 50 yards away from me. I was downwind from the 2 dorks and had to pick up all their trash that was blowing at us. And every fish they caught they would scream so everyone would now they were catching fish.
PLEASE KEEP OUR LAKES and recreation areas CLEAN.
Other than that, we had a great time. We caught all fish on tube jigs tipped w/ worms and later in the day, we switched to meal worms.
Lake had about 4 inches of fresh snow.
Later, Gaeter

Hey utcatman,
My brother and I was there too, right off the last pullout. We went a little north and closer to shore than anyone else there. We limited on perch from 9:00 to 10:45 or so, four or five being 11 inches. Then we went even closer to shore, probably only about 20 yards from shore, fished about 5 to 12 feet under the ice and caught 14 trout, two 15 inchers and my brother caught a nice 18 incher. We left at 12:30, was one of the funnest ice fishing trips i've ever had.
