I was telling a friend of mine how good the Rock was fishing this year, and he asked me how long would it last with all the perch that we are taking home. Good question. I have seen over 500 people fishing each Saturday for several weeks now. That would be 10,000 perch a day if we all get a limit. How long will they last at that rate?
Could this be a factor in the loss of perch at Pine View?
I know that there are a lot of perch at the Rock, but with a 20 perch limit and not a 50 perch limit like at lake X, will we over impact the population in the next few years?
By this I mean that Lake X must have more perch needing harvesting,if the limit is that high.
Are we going to hurt Rockport at the present rate of harvest or is everything all right for now? Just a thought, DKS.

Each adult perch could produce up to and not limited to 20,000 eggs on its spawn . Long as there are weeds to spawn on it shouldn't hurt . Pineview has been drawn down to fast to have a good spawn . I have seen it go down 2' in one week 2 years ago .

Well there has to be a ton of them in there to be honest. I toke my family upi there today so we could get some more perch (we ran out) we nailed 63 today from the same hole I fished last week were there were 4 of us lemited out of this one hole no joke so there has to be a ton in that lake for one hole to support such a haul. Besides it may give the small bass a chance in there and maybe just maybe i will see the size of trout I used to pull out of there.

I think there will be plenty of perch for the rest of this season. A better question maybe how long will the ice last. If the forecast is accurate there may only be a couple of weeks left. there will certainly be plenty left when spring comes for spawning. I am wondering what will happen to echo. It looks like there will be plenty of water. Will that mean the fish that weren't caught this winter grow into big fat perchies for next year. I hope so. gshorthair

I myself have cleaned over 60 perch and still have yet to get a male one on my hook.
Anyone know where all the male perch are hiding? I don't know the behavior of the males but I am hearing the dominent ones tend to cruise more shallow when in feeding mode.

I've only cleaned a couple. They are smaller than the females. So if you're doing some culling based upon size, that could be the reason.

I haven't gotten any males, I am culling based on eggs in the females. All I have caught have had eggs.
Boy i tell ya, if humans girl-guy ratio was that high all of us men would have the pick of the litter.

Yes, I have been to the rock twice. Both trips have been fairly successful. The last one better than the first. I'm still trying to figure out how big that tornado was that swiped that auger out of the back of your truck. I'm really glad that you got it back. Those are the kind of stories we could hear more often. In the two limits of perch I have found 2 males. gshorthair

As others have stated, the smaller perch have been the males. I had to move around a lot my last trip to find the perch. When we did, there were more males in that one trip, than in all the other trips combined.
I talked to some DWR folks tonight at the Fishing Club for Kids kick off meeting, and they think that we can't catch the perch as fast as they reproduce. That is a good sign to me.

O LOOK WHAT YOUV DONE. SINGLE HANDEDLEY. LOL IF YOU PUT IT OUT THERE IT MAY COME TRUE. ITS JUST THE MOTHER DOING HER BUISNESS. NO WORYS THERE STILL PLENTY SWIMMING IN THE ROCK. THE LIMMIT WAS 50 PERCH AT THE ROCK BEFORE ICE FISHING GOT SO POPULAR THE IT WAS LOWERD TO 20. IM SURE OVER HARVEST FROM THE DOUG MILLER PARTIES HAVE NOT DONE ANY LAKE ITS JUSTICE. FOR 2 YRS NOW HE HAS CREATED A HARVEST UNLIKE ANY OTHER HARVEST DAY ON THE LAKE. I FEAL HIS PARTIES HURT MOORE THAN THEY ASSIST ANY BODY OF WATER. ONCE HE PUTS SOME THING ON TV. IT ALWAYS GOES DOWN HILL. JUST AN UNEDUCATED OBSERVATION FROM A PERSON THAT SEE,S HISTORY KEEP REPETING. ITS FUN FOR MANY BUT ULTIMATLEY IS HURTING US ALL. A GATHERING OF 100 IS ONE THING A GATHERING OF 1000 IS JUST TO MUTCH FOR ANY BODY OF WATER. I WONDER IF DOUGEY EVER LOOKS AT WHAT HE IS REALY CREATING. OPPORTUNITIES OVER LOSS OF OPPORTUNITIES. THE SAD THING IS HE CANT TURN BACK WHAT HE HAS DONE.ITS NOT ALL DOUGYS FAULT. HIS GATHERING DOES NOT SERV THE GREATER GOOD.

[size 3][font "Times New Roman"]I was just wondering why some on this board love to beat-up Doug Miller. Is what he’s doing that different from what BFT does? He shares information on outdoor activities including ice fishing just like BFT. However his forum is the TV where ours is the computer. Hell I wish I could have his job and I’m sure a lot of others feel the same way. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, Can’t wait till the 26th, my OT will be over and I will get to hit the hard water again. I don't blame Doug Miller personally but some places can't stand the pressure that is placed on it by his publicity. We all have the right to fish any open public waters but when we all do it at the same time, something is going to give. Last year Doug's perch party was canceled because of the fear of too many people on the ice at Rockport, all at one time. The ice just wasn't thick enough to be safe.
I also like to beat up on Doug, because I am jealous of him and his job.
