Just a quick note Im excited to be a new member, Ifish Flaming Gorge weekly from April to November And had GOOD luck last year tying the Wyoming state Kokanee record with a 6lb4oz fish caught in upper marsh creek. I look forward to posting any information that might help the group to catch more Kokanee. It truly is my passion

Welcome Sockeyeslayer!! It is always good to have new members. Did you see Doug Millers ice fishing show last Saturday? It was on Flaming Gorge and how there is the lowest number of Kokes ever. last June we tried to catch Kokes at Anvil and all we caught were the lakers. In years past we did well with Kokes and now we can hardly catch one. maybe you can give me some suggestions. By the way, congrats on the tying the record. Go fish!!!

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you will enjoy these message boards. There is alot of valuable info here and you will make some great new friends with those who share your passion.
How do you fish for the kokes? do you troll or jig. I have had some fair luck jigging for them when they are spawning. I spend alot of time at the Gorge but I concentrate on catching macks. Look forward to hearing from you.

I spend most of my time trolling, I have 21 ft Grady White walkaround boat that is set up with 3 electric downrigger's so it makes sense for me to troll. I am the executive of sales for shasta tackle who makes a big line of stuff directly for Kokanee and Rainbow's I'll have to send you some!! I look forward to meeting you and all the other hard core Gorge fisherman out there.

Just a quick note, Your right about the Kokanee level's They are lower then I have ever seen but my dad and I seem to just keep on catching them. I do well with a green Shasta cripplure behind a green sling blade dodger and also a pink glow sling blade with a pink hootchie or kokenut. We'll have to hook up and go I have plenty of room and all the gear we'll ever need. There is always room for one more salmon lover!!

Thanks, I would like to hook up and catch some fresh water salmon. I for one think they taste good and I love the fight they give.
I picked up some shasta gear a few years ago at a trade show and I have never used them much. I guess I should. We have used wedding rings and lures before but now the lakers jump on them. I have always wondered if the speed we troll has alot to do with it as well. Thanks for the info.

Welcome Sockeye, I love the Gorge don't get up there near as much as I would like to, I mainly fish for bass when I do. I will look forword to reading your posts. Maybe I can learn a thing or two and go after Kokes with some success.

I have a couple electric downriggers on my 17.5 foot Tracker. I rarely use them. I do love Kokes to catch and eat. Maybe you could give me some tips and I could try it. Sounds fun.

all we need to do is set a time when we are both free and go up, I can show you what I have been taught fishing the lake the last 19 years, My dad has been a big influence on me sense I was young and it's been neat to surpass him in the kokanee division so to speak and make him proud in my success..... However it's more fulfilling to watch new friend's have success and in turn help other's and then we all can have a good time, because there is nothing worse then a long car ride home with no kokanee to show for it.
Let me know if I can ever help... love to go anytime!

"I am the executive of sales for shasta tackle who makes a big line of stuff directly for Kokanee and Rainbow's". A year or two ago one of the guys from your company was on the Doug Miller show, he and Doug were fishing at the Gorge for kokanee, was that you or someone else in the company? Welcome to the site, we look forward to your input. There are a lot of us on the site that target the kokes at the Gorge and elsewhere, so I'm sure your advise will be sought after. WH2

Thank's for the advice However when the word Guide was mentioned in the Doug Miller responce, I was a "local" with the knowledge to guide them for t.v. show purposes, So because I was a shasta tackle executive they used me to net and run the remote troll.... not to glamerous if you ask me. As far as you are concerned the d.w.r. should be following you around with all the monster's that you have logged lately! it's neat to see someone I know have so much luck! Let's plan on getting together in april I need a mack lesson or two, Thanx for the information
