Great Day at the Berry 2/19
#1
Fished the Meadows Saturday with PapaLouder with awesome results... From the time we dropped our first line (approx 8:45 AM) till time to leave (about 3:30) the fishin' was fast & furious-

We drilled trough about 2 ft of ice and shoveled through 2 ft of snow till we found 30 ft of water then hunkered down for the fight... iced over 25 fish each all Cutts in the slot and all very active and fat as toads- no "lite bites" from these fish, they inhaled your gig. (used green paddle bugs and wht/grn crickets tipped with crawlers or mealies).

Only one other group in site all day and they were over 1/2 a mile from us till 2:30 when the local wildlife officials stopped by to chat... they informed us that they had given 6 or 7 citations and confiscated over 20 slot-Cutts from guys who claimed they "didn't know" and others who where hiding fish under the snow... I quickly thanked them for their fine work and offered hot chocolate... I have no tolerance for those that refuse to play by the rules-

Good fishin' to all...PB

Excellent report, and thanks for the update. I've never got into the meadows to fish, but it sounds like a good place to go play! Nice to see the wildlife officers out enforcing the slot. There really is no excuse up there, and anyone who breaks the rules needs to pay the price.

[cool]Nice report, PapaBaruu! Sounds like a fun day on the ice. I'm going to have to troll the Meadows this spring after ice off.

It's great to hear that the DWR boys were out there nailing them poaching idiots!! "We didn't know." Yeah...RIGHT! If they are too lazy and ignorant to pick up the regulations when they buy their tackle, then they have at least seen the signs that are clearly posted at every parking area on that lake!! Maybe they are illiterate, but that's still no excuse. If that were the case then they could at least ask somebody that can read.

Unload at the main marina and head south towards Renegade marina... when you see Renigade marina and are in Renegade bay turn south-east towards the large bay on your left... that's the "Meadows" (about 4 - 4 1/2 miles)

You'll definitely need snowmobiles - 4 wheelers would never make it... and take care as you cross a couple of ice "heaves" they are kind of slushy and raise up about 2 - 4 feet. (one at Haws point and another at the old "dike" area).
