Once again we had a great day at Rockport today.
We were going to hit Strawberry but the weather changed our minds. My son and I loaded up with the perch in about 1 hour fishing in only 24' of water. We were on the west side and to the South. We chose that location with some big browns in mind.
We iced a dozen or more bows in the 10" to 14" size while we were catching the perch. When we moved closer to shore for the trout, we fished in only 12' to 16' of water.
My son wanted a big Brown, so he has spent the last 3 trips looking for them and keeping away from the perch.
Well he hit the jackpot today! After several more smaller Bows, he hooked the big one. The hooked jaw male came in at just under 22". He also iced 2 more bows that were 17" and 18". Green Whatt-a-Crickets and White tube jigs tipped with wax worm did the job. I did get some pictures, but I have now idea how to post them. I hope to talk my wife into going back with me on Monday. great report.
i'm hitting the rock on monday with a first time ice fisherman.
should be fun. we fished close to the same location last week in 30 foot of water.
i'll have my radio on 12.

[cool]Congrats on a great day, DKS! Looking forward to seeing the pics of that big brownski. I can't wait to get out there again on Monday. We're gonna target the Trout first and then maybe go after some Perch as well. Gonna fish closer to the inlet. Should be a hoot.

It looks like I will have some good company on Monday. My wife, my youngest son, and his wife will be with me. I will call on channel 12 to see how everyone is doing. We will be back on the South West side. I hope that the weather will hold up again. DKS.

My son said that he was suspended about 3 turns from the bottom. He doesn't have a fish finder and my fishin buddy isn't all that great at marking fish, so he stays close to the bottom and does very well there.

Nice Brown . I been giving it a heck of a try to find big browns the last 2 weeks and only landed 6 with a 20" the biggest .

Hi d-mack, It was good talking to you at the Rock. I took my wife, youngest son and his wife back up today 2-21-05.
No Browns this trip, but we iced a ton of Rainbows and brought home 30+ big fat perch. The Rock has been very kind to us this year and I hope that it will "ROCK" for many years to come, DKS. [Smile]

DKS,

Nice talking to you as well. I'm Thrilled that I've finally found an online community of fellow fishers that aren't all about griping and whining about the state they live in(and the way it's fisheries are managed) and who don't seem to be all "stuffy" and "elitist" when it comes to our common sport of fishing. To me, I really don't care how you catch a fish, be it fly, lure, jig, or bait,(I do them all)IF you respect your quarry and your fellow fishers you've got the most important part figured out. I'm not too progressed in years but I've been fortunate enough to catch (and release, and eat[Smile]) a good portion of the available species of fish in the western united states and I've come to love and respect this lifestyle and my kindred spirits who enjoy it with me.

Remember.... If you've had a successful day and you come across someone who hasn't "figgerd it out yet" stop and give them little advise. It won't hurt you and the Fish Gods WILL reward you.
