Birthday Gift for a 5 year old

So my daughter turned 5 yesterday and I gave her her first ultra light ugly stick.

Brought a tear to my left eye, only one tear, when she said "thanks daddy, this is the best birthday present ever!".

I think I have a fishing buddy for life. []

I know how you feel. I gave my two girls (5&7) each a rod/reel combo plus a tackle box to share for Christmas. I finally got them over to Wollow Pond to try them out and we had a blast.

My son is five and he is already flyfishing with me. He has a 6 foot three weight that he can cast and he caught many fish with it last year. Now he wants a spinning rod so I am trying to teach him to put off self gratification. He has two wait three weeks before he can take his money down to get it. Yesterday he informed me that we have two weeks and three days left. I have created a monster as my wife says. O'well it beats playing video games or just vegging out.
