Strawberry Report - 3/5
#1
Got to the Ladders about 6:45 amidst lots of fog. I didn't mark a single fish on my Vexilar in the first 45 minutes. Moved around a few times and finally caught 4 fish between 7:45 - 8:15. Chartruses whatta crickets in 34 feet of water. Ended up with 11 total. All in slot and all cuts. Most were on the bottom, a few were suspended. I left at 11am when it slowed down. Gorgeous day! Anxious to hear other reports!

Whoops! Got ahead of myself. Thanks for catching my error! I'll have to redeem myself by catching MORE on 3/12.

Well...I didn't come across any slush. But I stayed on the packed 'trail' for the most part and left by 11am. When I was off the trail there was a crusty layer on top and powdery layer beneath it (foot deep perhaps). If you're asking about wheeler / snowmobile acess...I'm not the best to ask (don't own, but want to! [Wink]). Just don't want to give you any inaccurate info. I did see some snowmobiles out there and I think a wheeler or two. Good luck at your GPS spot. Anything special about the spot that you can share? Or just had good luck there once? (Just curious).

Thanks , I was thinking taking wheeler , but I not afraid to walk . The GPS spot is where I had luck last summer in the channel . I might hit the ladders or Soldier Creek . Not decided yet .

My boys and I were at the ladders on Feb. 26 and did pretty well. The 3 of us iced 35 and we each lost 3-5 at the hole. It was pretty steady all day. We went out to 30 feet of water and were in between where the stream emptys in and the little substation is, north of the channel. We had the best luck on a kind of curly tail jig that was white on one side and green on the other, I think it is called a triple threat, tipped with nightcrawler. We also used
Mike's crayfish scent. Another group of guys walked clear across to the island but when they came back after 3 hours they had'nt landed a fish. They fished for awhile by us and never did get a fish. They were using foxie jigs.
