How to?
#1
[unsure][#005000]Hi there TubeDude - thought that I would go to the Answerman [do you remember him?] re the following situation. Since Lake Irvine has a special on boat rentals this month + I have some $$ off coupons that I picked up at the Fred Hall show planned on motor boating this month. Oh yes the question. How would one go about setting up a Fish Finder quickly and naturally on a temporary basis?[/#005000]

[cool][#0000ff]Are you thinking of adapting your tubing sonar to a temporary boat sonar? If so, you might want to consider rigging it up in a portable package like some of the guys do for ice fishing. See the attached pics. They use a small cooler, mounting the display on top and putting the battery inside...with a quick connect on the outside of the box for attaching the power to the display and battery.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you already have your transducer mounted on a rod, then just get some kind of clamp or bungee cord to attach it to the transom or the outside of the boat, even up through an oarlock.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Some ice guys make elaborate wooden boxes, like in the third picture. Most sonar manufacturers offer "portable" models, with display, battery and transducer all in one neat package. Those are popular with folks who occasionally rent boats, or who want to run a second sonar from a spot on the boat where one is not permanently mounted.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hope this provides some ideas. I know you are a creative guy and once you get the idea you will put something together. Be sure to send the pics so we can help out the next guy who asks the question.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#005000]Thanks Pat. Will have a better idea as to what will work best after tomorrow. Planning on doing some boating in the am/pm and will look over the rental. I like the portable concept which I might be able to incorporate into something workable for my tube and an occasional boat rental.[/#005000]
