bubble up 4/24/05
#1
hit the bubble up again yesturday and it was prime. fished from 4 pm till 8:30 pm and had great action. we boated 4 walleyes and missed a handfull. steve caught the largest of the evening measuring 24" and weighed in at 4.5 lbs! we had the place to ourselves with a little rain. we fished with minnows just off the bottom. i added some pics of our catch and steves hog. steve kept his small one for the frying pan, and we cut the others loose. first trip to the bubble landed 3 eyes, this was our second trip out. i think me and this bubble up place are going to get allong just fine.

Can I ask why you would put those fish on a stringer if you are going to release them?

WELL WHY HE DOES IT OR IS IT LEGAL?
WELL YOU WOULD DO IT TO ATRACK MALES IN.IF YOU HAVE A FEMALE FULL OF EGGS WELL IT IS KINDA LIKE A FISHY NITE CLUB TO SAY.
NOW I BELEIVE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO HAVE ANY FISH ON A STRINGER (LIVE WELL) AND TO LET IT GO. BUT I WILL HAVE TO LOOK INTO THAT ONE SOME MORE.

You are correct Mike. You must either immediately release a fish unharmed, or keep it to take home. It is unlawful to put fish on a stringer and then later release it. Some people have done this with trout to "cull" their limit if they happen to catch a bigger fish later. The fish has a much lower survival rate after being dragged around on a stringer with a clip or line through it's gill plate.

Your statement is only correct for trout, salmon or grayling. The Utah Fishing Regulations and Information 2005 reads:

"Trout, salmon and grayling that are not immediately released and are held in posession, dead or alive, are included in the person's bag and possession limit... Once a trout, salmon or grayling is held in or on a stringer, fish basket, livewell, or by any other device, a trout, salmon or grayling may not be released."

Well whether it's legal or not put it in a live well..... I can't see dragging a fish around on a stringer then letting it go. IMO
