Kaysville pond needs Carp
#1
Just went to kaysville to test the changes to the prizims. The moss is already starting to build to the point I really had to search for a place to cast without bringing in moss. I know every body seems to think Carp in a fishery are bad but they do a bang up job of keeping vegitation down. I would like to see some sterile carp put in so they could control the population and keep the moss down. just my$.02

I have the tracking issue solved now with 22 -#5 lead shot. If you have one of the first ones I will trade for the fixed ones.

James, as many people know I am not a carp fan. But you may have a valid point. The problem there is no such thing as just a few carp in any body of water. Is there a way to steralize them to keep them from taking over a body of water? Jake

They sterilize every thing else in this world why not Carp.[Wink] I would bet there are a few other ponds and lakes that could use a moss eater.

As long as they're sterile, that sounds like a good idea. Kaysville seems like a place where they would take over in a hurry if they weren't sterile. Do the stockeries deal with carp? It doesn't really seem like a fish they would spend money on.

I know they have grass carp in Salem pond and there is no problem with overpopulation, those fish may be sterile.

Mabey pond in clearfield used to have some HUGE carp. Charlie charlies used to feed them their old bread, and there was no fishing pressure, so they grew up big and strong. Last year, I didn't see any sign of them, so I'm assuming that they were caught and kept. My point is that in a small pond, they might get fished out, so overpopulation MIGHT not be a problem.

Anyone got a bucket? Just kidding!

Spring Lake in Payson could use some moss reduction as well!

HFT, Nice thought! Another thought comes to mind, how much of an impact would we have if sterile carp were to be put in waters where there are others that are not sterile? Competition for food, breeding etc. HMM one wonders!
