Linden - Sunday 5/15
#1
Good morning all,

Bummer ! I missed the flotilla ! I tried, but the prevailing winds(of Rangerhood) were not favorable and I couldn't escape - no matter what I did. Dang it !

I guess to make up for it, I'll just go down this morning for a leisure moment of watersports and outdoorness. If you happen to see a grey fishcat flailing in the shallows or being chased through the weeds by cats - that would be me - give me a shout out(I'm still trying to get my radio to pick up something on channel 12) if you also ended up with some time to invest in Utah Lake's bounteous Sunday ambiance.

One thing though, try to stay up wind from me - I'm using some pretty "well done" shrimp and chicken liver bait that has had a little "festering" time in the sun - and it is RIPE ! I can tell when it's just about perfect done - it makes my hounds Smile and do the olefactory shuffle.

BTW - TubeDude, I finished the "verbosity" portion of our little "photo op", but, as I was doing it, I realized that I needed another photo or two for the before and after photo comparisons, and you'll be happy to know that I have convinced(read extorted here - I told them if they did not help, I would spend the entire week at home with my hounds in our adjacent back yards and I would be festering more fish bait just downwind of their kitchen window) one of my neighbors to come over with their camera to shoot the other two pictures. Hopefully, they will come out as good as that ones you took. Anyway, we'll probably do that today when I get back from Linden boat harbor with some fish for fry(yes, I tend to be somewhat optimistic).

Actually, the "fish bait" was originally intended to be a treat for Fang(my cat) and was left in the back of my truck by accident. I found it 2 days later then pronounced it fish bait. I also usually use worms, minnows or carp meat. The real stinky stuff works best in slow moving rivers down south(in the Ozarks where I lived when I was younger) - a little bread like dough with a lot of chicken blood or former fish parts festered a spell in the sun. I haven't tried the beefsteak thing yet - sounds a little pricey for bait - besides that, the hounds would never allow a steak to get to the point of being considered "cat food" - neither would I - for that matter.

Well the kitties weren't pampered today with my fine concoction of a cuisine - I forgot to bring it. Yea, even after putting it in front of the gate so I couldn't get out with out it - along with my life vest and a few other handy items. They remained safely protected behind the fence with the dogs all day in the sun. I somehow got distracted just before I left and proceeded out the other door - no where even close to the gate or the bait.

I haven't open the containers yet, however, as far as being bait now, I don't have a boat big enough to get far enough up wind of it to put it on a hook - that is if it's all not just some putrified liquid now.

Thanks to CBR and Mike the day didn't end with just two muds, I ran out of the worms I had left in my truck from Friday's fishing - I only had 4 worms when I got to Linden and realized I left the rest of my bait in the back yard with the hounds. But those two donated some baits as they left, and I proceeded to catch more muds than I counted - I took 4 of the "tastier" (too deeply hooked) looking ones home for dinner. Thank guys !

Also, Met some other BFT folks today - about 4 - Sorry I can't remember all the names.

That stuff must have been real rank if it sat out there with the dogs all day and they would not even touch it.[crazy]

With my hounds, it's more likely they would roll in it(which would be far worse) than eat it.

Was good meeting you, I hope that sucker meat helped you out a bit.

The bite was strong before sunrise. I arrived to the bubble up at 6am and it was fast and furious until the sun came up. Then things slowed a bit but atleast the mudcats still wanted to play. I caught 10 fish and lost several nice ones.

Lost 2 walleye, one I was about to net then he got off and a big mama came up to the surface and with a flick of the tail gave me the finger and spit the jig and swam off.

3 Channel Cats 3-5 lb range, 1 Walleye, 6 Mud Cats.
