Pepe Le Pew at Rock Cliffs 6-4
#1
Kastmaster and I went up to Rock Cliffs after work today. The water levels look great, the facility improvements are done and look nice, and we both got skunked.[unsure] We were fishing for smallies in our float tubes. On my finder, the water temp was only 56-57 degrees around most of the Rock Cliff area, and in/near the old river channel, it got down to as low as 53 degrees in spots. The bass are likely seeking warmer temps than what was there and more likely headed to warmer parts of the lake. (or/and we didn't have the touch tonight[blush]) There were active trout on the surface for fly anglers, but I didn't have any action with spinners for them either. I think Rock Cliffs will be a lot of fun in a few weeks once the water warms up.

One last thing, the perch do appear to be down a lot. I didn't have any jig tail nibbling perch the whole evening, nor did I see much on the fishfinder. I'm sure the cold water had an effect, but this perch kill last month might really have reduced their numbers quite a bit. We shall see. Tight Lines all.

Thanks for the report. Is there any place in the rock cliff arm of the lake that you can lauch your tube without paying a day fee, or is it all tied up? I would like to catch some of those smallies up there from my float tube.

Alas, it is all tied up. If one has to pay up a day fee, it is pretty a nice place to fish and camp. I love it up there. Last year, there were a few of us "regulars" who went up there a lot in tubes and had a lot of fun. Watch for reports for the action to pick up and come along with us. I have heard there is some place on the North arm where you can walk in for free, but I have never tried to find it. Good luck.

You can thank the chocolate milk for the skunk. Visibility is lousy right now thanks to the high run off. Once things calm and the water gets more clear the smallies should move in. They do like clear water.
