Check your trailer
#1
Just put the boat away, and found that the pin for the crossbolt on my receiver hitch was missing. Fished Willard today, and didn't notice anything was amiss. Hate to think what might have happened if the boat got loose on I-15. That's definitely not funny. So check your trailer before driving away. Wonder why someone would do that?

Could be a prank or just some jerk wanting someone to have an accident without thinking of the consequences. Good to hear nothing bad happened on the way home. Also, this is another reminder also to have the trailer safety chains hooked properly to the towing vehicle and that it is the correct size for your trailer. I've seen trailers out there being pulled with one dinky chain, looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Never underestimate the power of the idiot. One stupid action can have lifelong consequences. Glad you and the boat are okay.

Was it the pin that holds the hitch and ball into the tow frame on your vehicle? If so, I remember when I bought my tow gear, they said they made pins with a locking mechanism built in. Costs a bit more than a normal one, but may be worth the peace of mind.

It's a Sad commentary on the state of affairs when tow pins are even made with locks...

Drunken stupor? Could be yours or somebody else's. Regardless, nothing bad happened, so count yourself among the lucky.

It was the pin that goes through the crossbolt that holds the hitch and ball in the receiver.

And no, Mateo, it wasn't a drunken stupor on my part. I never drink when I hunt or fish, period. I put the pin in its place at 6:30 this morning, a little early for most of us. And to anticipate your next strange question/insinuation, I wasn't hung over, either.

Glad you made it home safely, these idiots really chap my @**. Two years ago someone stole the tail light off my boat trailer at the Gorge. No, I didn't steal another one, could have - they were everywhere. Went to a little shop in Manilla and paid $25 for a $7 tail light. Hope I catch one of these low-lifes one day.

That sucks, its good that the bold didnt work itself loose that would have been a mess, if i were you i would take $10 down to checker or walmart and get a locking crossbar you need a special socket to remove the thing, to me it would be worth the peice of mind.

At least you didn't have the whole trailer hitch stolen!! My father-in-law went to get out his boat and his tent trailer to go to Strawberry memorial weekend, and noticed there was no hitch on the back of his blazer! They typically just left the hitch on year round. Sometime in the last few months someone took the hitch off and stole it!

Only one type that I rate lower than a thief & that's a child molester. I catch anybody taking something not theirs & one of us is gonna get hurt.

Maybe I'm talking too big for a 65 yr. old but I'll leave my mark.

Far as stealing the pin outta the hitch, that oughta be worth an attempted manslaughter charge. Good grief, how can anybody be that mean spirited.
