Got there at 11:45 am. Went straight for the island in various depths for smallies for two hours all the way around the island, couldn't buy a bite. I threw everything at them, I didn't see one trailing my lures or bait which consists of nightcrawlers which they seem to like in the past. Nada.
I noticed a small wind come up around 2:30, started trolling both minnow crankbaits and bottom bouncer with crawler harness alternatively til about 7:30 without a bite at all! I went to the mudflats where Provo comes into the lake, the dikes along the hwy, and along the railroad tracks all the way up to the dam's bouy marker. Bite? Nada!
I noticed a lot of great hangouts for 'eyes on my sonar which last year was non-existant. I also did notice the water level is really maxing out flooding the trees and vegetation. I did not see many fish on the sonar, the ones I do see are the ones hunkering very tight to the bottom in 119 feet of water next to the railroad tracks by the dam's bouys. I'm guessing those are the big eyes. I noticed one fish at 14 feet of water in 65 feet depth which it is safe to assume either a trout or a carp. That's the only time my sonar spotted fish other than baitfish which are many. Where are all the fish????
What that probably means is the fish are really utilizing their flooded areas for their food sources, plenty of nutrients. Probably the reason why I couldn't buy a bite. I didn't see many boats out there at all, and those that are fishing, I didn't see any catching. With all this water, I guess we have to relearn where they are at!
I trolled at paint drying speed up to 2.5 mph, and I threw everything at them. It was a real beautiful day to be on the lake and only a few jet boats out there. Awesome weather even tho the fishing wasn't. The lake was glassy smooth most of the day with the exception of a occasional wind coming through the canyon.
I am kicking myself abit for not going up to willard bay...
