I-80 Pond???
#1
I want to fish the I-80 pond next week, but I realized today that I don't know jack about it. So, I have a few questions.

First off, I'm not "allowed" to take the freeway anywhere. That won't matter. What my mom don't know won't hurt her. But that means I can't take my toon or float tube. So, is it possible to fish from shore, or possibly wade it in a pair of chest waders?

Second, do the bass in there bite on "traditional" bass baits? I know what to use on their cousins eslewhere in Tooele Co., so I figure I've got a general idea. But, I want to be sure.

One plus side to that lake is that if they don't bite there I'm only ten minutes from a lake with a potential record. All I'll have to do there is park a mile away and run down to the water. Either way I'll get my bass fix. Thanks in advance.

I bet he is referring to the Mill Pond but it is a private lake and you have to be a resident to fish it. But there are some big bucket mouths in there.

Try a wacke worm or top water.

From shore can be dunn but not very good, I would not wade it or keep any fish out of there that is a heavy metal settling pond for KKC or use to be (very high lead ).

Not exactly on I-80. A little to the south. Its Stansburry reservoir. I've already caught one 10 lber outta there, and I know there was an even bigger one with it when I caught her. Oh yeah, I can fish it where ever I want! My cross country/track coach lives in that area and has access to the lake. I show him where to fish, he lets me fish it. Ah, life is good...

colorado set up (silver) with a worm knoks them dead
directions to get there
you go down I80 or 201 till you hit the rest stop before the tooele exit park your car look at the great salt lake then look down between the railroad tracks and the freeway and you have the I80 ponds you can fish it from shore alot easyier then from a tube walk the water pipe till you get out of teh cattails and there is a open spot there fish it or there is one a little bit further down the pipe there is bluegills bass (largemouth) crappie and a few carp if you nail a carp there please let him goto help keep the weeds down but don't eat the fish!!!!!! spinners in silver work well also
I hope this helps i used to fish it 3 to 4 times a week there are some biggins in there but there are a ton of small ones there also you will catch 50 small ones to 1 big one hwere it is bluegill or bass best of luck to you

I've always had more luck in there with in-line spinners than with what one might consider the more "traditional" bass lures. I like larger (size 2 or 3 blade) blue foxes and panther martins. Try to find a panther martin that is colored somewhat like a bluegill (something with orange and some sort of dark color works nice). The panther martins work especially well because you can cast the things almost all the way across the pond and cover a lot of water.

For better shore access, take the Saltair exit off of I-80. Head west like you're going towards the harbor and when the road turns north just keep going west on the dirt road like you're going to Black Rock. Take the road as far west as you can before you hit a locked gate. Park there and then step up on the railroad tracks. You'll have to walk 150-200 yards before you actually hit the main pond. Just look for the openings in the bushes and have fun. By going this way you can avoid having to step over the big cement culvert, but you might be stuck on the wrong side of the tracks for a few minutes if a train comes along. I've caught some 18" fish, but only after numerous little buggers. They can still be fun on an ultra lite rod.

And...make for dang sure you don't eat anything out of there.
