Not a lot but a good mix
#1
Took Ivy, and Trent to Lindon this afternoon, we got there around 11:00. With in five minutes we all had our first fish all were mudders all caught on shrimp and worm. I caught another mud about 30 min latter. We had a few nibbles but no other hookups for next hour or so. I started getting small nibbles the line would go tight then slack, this went on for about five min. I figured it was just a mud playing with the bait, it has been my experience that muds tend to do this, as where a channel will hit it and run. Well I set the hook and could tell it was no mud, it made a few nice runs before we landed it. It was a nice 22" channel. Ivy caught two more muds and then something that struck me as strange I caught a white bass on shrimp and worm. I was shocked but happy for the new bait so cut a piece off threw in on my hook. Then I couldn't keep my line in the water for more then five minutes without a bite. But I couldn't set the hook. We only ended up staying until about 3:00 then the wind picked up and we decided to call it day. We ended with 8 total 6 muds, 1 channel and 1 white bass. Like I said not a lot but a good mix. One Sad side note I took the channel home to add to the other fillets in the freezer, but when I cut the first fillet off I noticed it was carrying eggs.

I know this question has been asked before on the board but a good refresher wouldn't hurt. So I ask how do you tell the difference between male and female channel cats?

I know males are usually darker more black or blue, which is why I kept this one, she was a dark gray/blue color.

[cool]Nice report, clebreto. I know that one of the other differences in males and females is that the males have a much bigger head in proportion to their bodies, but I'm sure TubeDude will let you know more. That's about all I know on that subject. I really didn't know that the females turn darker too this time of year. That's news to me.
