You know the state record is only 15 1/8 inches and the catch and release record is 15 1/4.

Hey Chuck. Nice perch. Biggest I have seen taken from DC. Whats going on with the smallmouth in Deer Creek? Usually you catch a bunch of them while fishing for eyes. Seems like they are few and far between lately.

None of the small perch had a chance of surviving that last few low water years with no cover to protect them. This year with finally high water and all that flooded brush, you'll see the next year or two will spell a comeback for both the perch and the smallies. Next spring there will be small perch and smallies all over the rocky shorelines anywhere near where that brush is now. And if we get another year next year like this one, then there will be a full-blown comeback. Of course it only lasts as long as the high water does, then the walleye will take them all down again.

[cool]Very nice perch, Chuck. That's cool that you released 'em too, because now they will be spawners next Spring. It would be really nice to see the perch population explode there again. I'm sure it can't be like it was in the 70's there again since too many folks have wised up and don't think of them as "trash fish" anymore, but it would be nice to see that population make somewhat of a comeback. I'm sure that wouldn't hurt the 'eye sizes and population at DC either!

Nice perch Chuck, did you catch it jigging? Any size to the walleye? You have a State record perch sitting in freezer or at least a tie to the record, wow Chuck, your a perch master, way to go.

GLAD THE PICK OF THAT FAT HOG PERCH TURNED OUT. ALL EYES CAME OFF JIGS. SOME ON PLASTICKS MOST ON A CRAWLER. TRIED ALL TROLLING TACTICKS NOTHING PRODUCED ANYTHING BUT SLIMERS THEY CAME ON RAPALAS. TONS OF WEEDS HAMPERED THE BOUNCERS AND CRANKS. ALL THAT GREAT NEW BRUSH IS SUPER HUNGRY FOR YOUR LURES RIGHT NOW. ALL FISH CAUGHT ON OR NEAR FLATS.

with all the weeds it makes it tought to troll, drift, bottom bounce.
the best thing to do is find a open in the weeds and anchor just off and pitch jigs. to find the open water watch your depth finder real close. no real size to the walleye, just perfict eating size though.
don't know whats up with the bass, there are some small ones being caught but they are far and few between. later chuck

Hi Chuck!

Great looking perch. I didn't think there were any more perch in Deer Creek. Gives us some hope.

It sounds like all of the walleye fishing tactics we used for the walleye last year are just not working because of the change in the reservoir. It is good to see that you are able to adapt to the changing conditions.
