Crayfishing @ Strawberry
#1
Im taking my kids up to the Berry tomorrow to hunt some crawdads. Its our annual crawdad trip and the girls are both excited.
I wont be doing much (if any) fish-fishing because between the kids, the nets, the chicken parts and the trap I get kind of occupied.

Has anybody got a recent report? Particularly, good spots with easy access for young ones (My 4 yr old isnt much of a hiker yet) We usually fish the Strawberry side but Ive heard the crawdadin' is a bit better on the Soldier creek side. Any suggestions?

[cool]Yes the Soldier Creek side is better. Go over by the boat ramp, and if memory serves my correct, you can go a little bit past there and there's a great spot right by an outhouse and fish cleaning station. You have to hike down to the lake a bit, but it's a good and easy trail. There's a ton of weeds and rocks right in there off shore. Just toss your traps out about 10 feet from shore right into the weeds, and they will sink down into "crawdadville." You are aloud 5 lines out at a time, so if you have 5 traps, you can get a few hundred in a few hours. Good luck!

I'm either going catfishing friday night, or slime rocket/crawdad fishing Saturday a.m. at the berry, so I'm not sure which yet.

What out for trout said. I'll be camping at Aspen grove the 30 and 31st. We always catch a huge load of dads. It has reached the point where we have a guage to measure them and throw back any that are less than 4". We can fill a 5 gal bucket in a few hours.

I always take my kids to the Soldier Creek side. Take the road that goes to the dam, and then take the first turnoff to the parking area. There is a lot of easy access over there, and never a problem getting plenty of crawdads. We haul our table to the lake and cook em up right next to the shore.
