Men in Black the Clandestine Lincoln Floatilla
#1
[#505000]Feeling bad for Fishluvr and the 365+ day skankathon.... I mean skunkathon he was receiving from Utah Lake we set up a private floatilla. After some creative wrangling of our work schedules we managed to roll out of work around 1pm and hit the water around 2pm. [/#505000]

[#505000]Utah Lake was glass, and was that pretty turquoise color it gets when there hasn't been any wind for awhile. It was also so hot we debated crawling back into the truck to sit and watch the water with the AC pumping full blast while we thought fond thoughts about ice fishing. [/#505000]

Glass on the water

[#505000]We decided real fishing is better so we assembled our crafts and hit the water. with the oars pumping it went kinda like this.......stroke, stroke, stroke, *wipe sweat from eyes* stroke, heat stroke, stroke *wipe sweat from eyes*.......[/#505000]

[#505000]At the end of the jetties I threw a little plastic hoping to score a white bass. On my second cast WHAMO!!! It looked like we were off to a good start, until the fish swam me into the rocks. I went to untangle my catch and found I had caught not a fish, but someone elses snagged line. Oh well I've caught worse.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]We paddled over to our honey hole and waited, waited some more and waited. I then had a runner tired to get a hookset and nothing. I had three or four of these then Fishluver got a mudder looks like the skunk was wilting in the 100+ degree temps. Fishluvr then got a decent channel. Having fought a bunch of trout and kokanee over the last year I could tell he was having fun fighting a 4.5lb channel by the fact he was giggling like a school girl the entire time he was fighting the fish. Looked like Fishluvr's Utah Lake Skunk melted in the scorching sun.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]Fishluvr managed three more channels, and I managed a channel of my own. We both lost about 5 more to snags and as Tubedude calls them "professional releases". It was so hot we drank all the liquid refreshment we brought out with us in the first 90 minutes. We were talking about going to shore to get more water (I was lamenting the fact I was now out of Diet Pepsi) when in came the wind!! We fished the north Atlantic seas for about 30 more minutes then headed for shore before someone came looking for our dehydrated, mummified, and desicated corpses. Although the temps were now reasonable.[/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]We filled our water bottles and waited a bit for the wind to die down some. After 30 mintues or so we decided to hit the water again. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]We fought the rollers, white caps, and breakers in our pontoons but no more real action. Fishluver decided to fish another area and got his fourth channel right off the bat. I moved to this new area and it just wasn't happening for me. I had caught my one fish so there was no skunk here. I was happy. It was getting dark and we had to get back so we called it an evening. [#505000][/#505000]The Carp_Punisher is obviously one handsome devil!!

[#505000]I don't mind telling ya'll It's a good thing I'm not a preacher.... my knees got so sun burned I don't think I could kneel if I wanted too. There was another picture I wanted to post but unfortunately Fishluver took it while I was waving at him with only one finger extended. [/#505000]

Here is the carp punisher at his finest. I still don't understand wearing a black shirt on a 100 plus degree day. We had a great trip with some fun fighting fish to top it all off. It would have been nice to see CP get into some more fish but he was using those dang circle hooks again. Oh well, live and learn.[inline "gary toon small.jpg"]

Hey glad you were able to get out and have a good time! Sweet that fishluvr finally got rid of that smell too! I wish I woulda had better luck the other day when I went out there! I think next time I'll head north towards the springs instead of south towards Goshen. Got myself a white bass in the freezer that wants to be re-introduced to Utah Lake -- although not all at once, but rather in small pieces attached to 1/0 hooks!

I seen you guys out there. I was in the big white truck when you guys were putting back in around 6:30. I took the family done there with the seine trying to catch some minnow. We did manage hundreds of 1inchers or smaller (nothing worth bringing home). At least we got wet and had fun. My kids just don't have the strength to keep up with me on the seine.

The good news is there is lots of little guys, maybe the bigger minnows are deeper?

I love the sunset pictures, good post and some nice kitties.

So what species were the minnows you were catching? Were they little carplets?

The ones that I was able to identify where the carplets. That was about 80% there rest were a mixture of what looked like whitebass and some others that I could not identify (still in the fry stage). Plus lots of bugs.

[cool]Dang, Gary! You have a hilarious way with words! Glad fishluvr got rid of his skank, er uh skunk! Those are some nice pictures. Looking forward to the gorilla floatilla next month. I'll be chasing slime rockets for the next week or so.
