Thief Hits Steinaker 07/17
#1
Sunday morning I got on Steinaker Lake at 0600, for a little bass fishing before the crazy speed boaters arrived. After catching three big mouths and a 20-inch rainbow, I pulled off the lake at 1000. When I got on Hwy 191, I seen the State Park Ranger Mike Murphy(a good friend of mine) pull up behind me. As some of you probably know you can pull off the highway along the lake in a couple places and fish from shore.

I pulled into a pull off by the lake to have a BS session with Mike. It turn out that Mike was investigating a theft that happened just minutes before. A fisherman had pulled into the pull-off and went fishing along the shore of Steinaker. I guess he heard a crash as a guy smashed his car window in and took his laptop computer. The fisherman did get their license number, which turned out to be a rental car out of Las Vegas.

So be careful what you leave in your car out in plain sight. I sure hope they catch these bastards!!!

Kinda the same subject.
I walked out in our back paking lot at work, and just as I closed the door I heard a window being brok I rounded the corner to see a guy jumping into his car, I looked over at the passenger who was reaching down under the seat. I thought it may be a gun so I high tailed it back inside and called police. The theifs were able to make it to the clostest gas station and use a credit card that wa stolen from the car. I could not give the police enough info to catch the perps. But it was caught in enough time that the only charged $30 in gas and all other cards and ID's were cancled.
This happend late winter this year and the lady has not had any problems since....as far as ID theft.

Come to find out she had her puse right on the front seat.

Thieves are everywhere! Never give them a reason to make you a victim! [mad] Always leave your valuables in your trunk or out of sight.

That really sucks when things like this happen, especially in the great outdoors. Nothing is sacred anymore. What you guys said about keeping things outta site is very good advice. The old saying "outta site, outta mind" applies in a lot of situations, but not all. However, keeping things hidden DEFINITELY lowers the chane of it getting stolen.

I think that at least half of these damn thiefs are meth addicts looking for stuff to steel to pawn or sell quickly on e-bay, etc. so they can hurry up and get that next fix. Crystal Meth is a HUGE problem in Utah (and much of the West as well), and results in a high percentage of burgleries in this state.
