What terrestrial fly patterns work best for brown trout?

[cool]Hoppers! I prefer the REAL ones though. I'll be casting some real ones on Friday for the browns in Cottonwood Creek, and not the one close to the SL Valley, either.

In the uintah streams a nice black ant pattern can be dynamite. When there is a nice hatch of cicadas, as is often the case in I think May or June on the Green River they are dynamite too. But overall, yes DEFINITELY the good ol' hopper can't be beat on small and large stream alike. I do very well with them on the Provo in the really deep holes (I use natural live hoppers, not the tied kind, but both work). Cast them along banks with tall grass specially when it's windy and don't be afraid to let them smack the water a little either, that's what happens when they really get blown in. Good luck!

Beetles. Hoppers are probably more consistent overall, but I've had plenty of days when the fish have seen too many hoppers, but they will smack a beetle.

For a big brown Try a spun hair mouse in the evening as it is getting dark. Excellent terrestrial!
