Alaska 7-6-05 thru 7-15-05

Better late than never with this report. Been busy since getting back from Alaska. We fished the Kenai River, Kasilof River for the salmon, and Cooks Inlet for the Halibut. I hooked into 8 kings total, boating2 on the Kenai and 1 on the Kasilof. My brother inlaw Hooked into 3 but did'nt boat any. My three Kings went 52, 46 and 35#s. Thats my niece in the first two pictures with my biggest sockeye and the 35# King. Those Kings put up an awesome fight, wearing the arms out trying to get them to the net. We also caught Rainbow, Dolly Varden and Sockeye Salmon. On our Halibut trip we caught 18 Halibut with my biggest one 45 pounds. Jesse's big one went 60 pounds. A seven year old caught the 94#. We also caught ling cod off the spit at homer.

I am EXREAMLY jelious!!!!! I went on a cruse 2 years ago to Alaska and chartered 3 differant excursions to fish for King's and Halibut. Bloddy weather stopped all 3 so I didn't get a chance to go out.

Congrats on yours my friend.

We got lucky with the weather. It rained two of the days we had no guided trips planned.

The Kenai trips were 175, Kasilof 165, and Halibut trip was 155 all were 6 hours long. This was cost per seat. There were four seats on the river trips and 12 seats on the halibut trip. Our lodging and food were seperate. We rented a cabin at $150 per night. They were well worth the cost. I thinkl it would be almost impossible to land one of them 50# kings from shore. I hooked up onefrom shore and it spooled me and broke my 30# leader off. The 46# and 52# took use down river one and half miles. They took about 25 to 39 minutes to boat. The biggest fish I had on took us up river 3/4 of a mile and I lost him at the net. After hooking into and fighting 4 of these fish in one day my arms were sore. You can only keep one king per day. So I was kind of lucky that I lost two fish on a rock (same rock) and the one at the net. I was able to fish all day. On the other Kenai trip my second hookup was the 52#, so I was done fishing at 7:30am. On the Kasilof trip I also hooked into two fish but both were late in the trip.
I have already booked my trip for next year.[cool]

Fine, fine, fine bunch of fish John! Thanks for the pics. I think I may have to do an Alaska trip instead of a Caribbean cruise next family vacation!
