Where are the newer boats at?
#1
I really want to know why in utah there far more older fisjing boats than newer for sale? Usually they are 20 years or older.I rarely see a newer fishing boat unless its a bass boat around the 10k range or higher.I look at the paper everyday at lunch and even go in the internet and never see like a tracker or lund around the 5-10 year old range. Next year i want to get me a boat .I was going to get one with this years taxes but i couldnt find nothing anywhere! At least something decent.I know theres gonna be people saying they are everywhere and they see them all the time but i dont. Do people actually keep their newer boats for lifr or what? [crazy]

Since i dont live in utah i cant say about what happening locally, but in this part of wyoming people seem to hang on to thier fishing boat's also. There seem to be more ski boat's or cabin crusier's for sale around here.

With the price of gas i think some people will stop using their boat ,and put them up for sale.Keep looking something will turn up that will catch your eye.

When I bought my boat last year I book marked the want ad section for boats in the Tribune on line. I checked it every day and since they were in the order placed. I only had to look at the new ads. Every once in a while one would come up that I would be interested in looking at. Like I am sure that you have seen most ads are for ski boats not good fishing boats. The guy that I bought my boat from was selling it because he had to pay a divorce settlement not because he wanted to part with the boat.

Cesar,

One of my favorite places to look for great deals on used items, especially boats, is the classified section on KSL's Web site.

Here's the link: [url "http://sell.ksl.com/cgi-bin/classifieds.pl?db=recvehicles&website=&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=headlines&category=Boats+w/Motor&query=category"]KSL's Boat Classifieds[/url]

Good luck.

Yes most of the ads that i have seen are for ski boats or duck hunting boats . I guess if you have a dependable you should keep it. I totally regret giving up" old blue "! [pirate] That was the most dependable boat i have ever owned.Actually it was the only boat i have ever owned.[Tongue] She did leave me stranded a couple of times but it was because of a battery issue. The battery was defective. Cant wait till next year i should have me a boat hopefully.

I told you, you shouldnt give your boat away, you should have gave it to me, and not the "donation" drive.

See now you have been saying "next year with taxes" for 4 years. i really hope that you find one this year though.

Is my memory correct that you are from Florida?
Remember that here in UT there is only 6 mos that you can really boat and that the last 7 years have been a drought. There is also the fact that it's a drive to get to a lake you can use a boat at for most people.
This all adds up to boats being used less and lasting longer. The low humidity also causes very little rot and that makes boats last longer.

I agree that I see more 1950's and 60's motors here than anywhere else. They have the same hours on them as a 2002 from florida.

After 37 years of combined military service between my wife and I we have had the pleasure of living or visiting many states and foriengn countries.

With that being said... I feel that Utah is a very expensive place to live based on wages to cost of living and many folks can only afford the older boats.

I have been fortunate enough to land a job where I can afford a nice boat, the only problem is that it will not meet all of my needs. I like to take my friends and family out for watersports thus needing a ski boat but I love to fish!!!!! So, alot of us try to get into a older beater boat that will serve as a fishing boat without too much additional cost.

Troll you make a very good point there. [crazy] When you dont use your boat 6 months out of the year it should last longer. Also you dont put 100 to 200 miles in a day chasing dolphin! Thus less wear and tear.

I get the same looks when I am launching my boat that I keep in FL. The boat is a 92 Gheenoe with a 92 18hp Mariner. I use the boat 4 or so days a year and store it inside the rest of the time. I always hear "that thing looks brand new" and by Florida standards it is.

I keep thinking that I want to bring it out here but probably never will. I do want a Gheenoe for out here though. I think if people from around here ever went out in a Gheenoe they would want one.It would be perfect for early and late in the year when I don't want the hassel of draining down the I/O after fishing. I know I would love it in the swamps during duck season to shoot from.

You know when i was in miami last may i saw a ton and i mean a ton of boats out there that were really good priced. They were newer and and really good priced. The only problem is getting them here.Especially on my way to key west i saw a bunch of 14-18 foot boats that were dirt cheap. The only thing is how do you tell how much abuse the motor has had. They dont have many trackers or lunds down there they are almost non existent for salt water .And i like the deep v that both companies make.Maybe i will look out of state next year probably be cheaper anyway for a decent boat. Also one reason i dont like the older engines i that there are no mechanics out therefor them.Every boat dealer only works on newer boats.Eagle marine was great at older boats they specialized in them but they closed down that sucks.
