I was fishing yesterday at Hyrum with my son and catching a lot of 4-6” bass and have a pleasant time when I hooked a 6-7” bass and was retrieving it, not paying lots of attention. As I got it closer to shore, I saw a flash near the small bass on my line. To my amazement, a fairly large bass, maybe 4-5 lbs, ate the smaller bass already on my line. I knew I couldn’t bring this monster in and it quickly got off leaving the smaller bass for me to un-hook. It was really exciting for a few seconds but it I knew it was a fluke. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like that? Chicken.

Yes, that has happened to me quite a few times while fishing for bluegills and other panfish - I've also landed a large (about 15 pound flathead) catfish that was only hooked by a tiny fraction of my hook that was sticking out of the side of the bluegills mouth and the catfish and bluegill came in together stuck cheek to cheek - it was a size 6 longshank panfish hook and on 6 pound line under a float and seemed to take forever to get them in to shore - the catfish looked like it tried to spit the bluegill out but with the smaller fish flopping around it hooked the cat on the outside of the cat's mouth. Neither one of the fish being any worse for wear, I threw them both back so they could sort it out between the two of them.
