I hooked up with JedBurton and fished Rockport today. When I checked the weather last night, it didn't look too promising. Forcast was for 8-11 mph winds gusts of 18-22 with possible thunderstorms. Well, with the exception of about 30 minutes or so, of storm cell, it was mostly calm and basically nice most of the day. Once again, Jed proved to be a great fishing partner and the kind of guy you want on the bow of your boat while attempting to anchor in a cove to get out of a storm - I'm actually glad he didn't just throw the anchor at me for suggesting "we ride the storm out" and fish while we're doing it.
As we trolled our way to a place where perch sometimes hold, Jed got a big hit on a crankbait however, the fish, probably a trout, decided to not come aboard. But, as soon as we dropped anchor at our destination, we started to catch perch and bass. After the action there cooled down, we moved to another place that turned out even better - So much so, we went back after hunkering down in a semi-sheltered cove during the micro-storm. Overall, we put 30 perch in the live well and released dozens more with almost as many bass released in the mix as well.
All in all - 'nuther great day fishing.

[cool]Nice report, fishound! I should take my tube up there and try my luck at those warmwater fish. I've only ice fished it, and love slamming those perch and little slime rockets! They are a lot of fun indeed!

The smallies were on the "small-ish but real scrappy" side, and the perch were on the "large-ish with some real nice fatties" side of the spectrum. Sorry, I typically forget to use the camera I recently got. Dang-it, I even had it with me.

Hey O4T,
The first time I fished Rockport was through the ice - that was 20 + years ago - I try to get up there to fish the hard water stuff every year a time or two. I am one of those poor schleps that sits out on a bucket in the weather and attempts to fish and not freeze at the same time - one of these days, I need to get one of those fishing shacks/sleds and a power auger.

once again a very fun fishing trip with you. And don't worry about riding out the storms if I can still fish and catch something I don't care what the weather is like. Anytime you want to go again let me know. I hope those jigs I made for you work well. If you want to do some hard water fishing in a shack I will bring mine. I have a two man speed cub shack. It works nicely when the weather gets nasty.

It's a deal ! I'll bring the gas grill and the Bratwurst you bring the shack. Or, we can go again while the water is still soft.
BTW - I used two of your jigs and the red one worked quite well untill I lost it in the weeds, but the chartruese one didn't do anything (maybe I didn't give it enough time or have the right colored plastic on it) - you must have not noticed because you were catching more fish than me - that was right before I changed to the float rig.

those are actually more of a trout jig than a perch jig. They usually work really well on trout, crappie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill

Rut Roh ! See what happens when you try to make something fool proof - A fool like me comes along and proves you can't. LOL ! Now ,I have to say neither one worked as designed - I didn't catch a single trout. But those perch I did catch, also misidentified the red one I used on them - but they weren't fooled at all by the chartruese one - like I was. Oh well maybe with the next batch you could label them so me and the fish can tell easier - as you know, the neither fish nor me are real clever.
