Mantua with the toddler
#1
I took my 3 year old son to Mantua. I biked around the road on the south east side of the lake and pulled him in his trailer. We biked around the point and to the little bay on the north east side. I used little sinking flies (on a spinning rod) and would just toss them out at rods length into the water. You could see little bluegill and a few bass and perch everywhere. When I'd hook one I'd hand the pole to my son and let him pull it in. He got bored with that pretty fast though and spent most of his time chucking rocks into the water. Didn't seem to bother the little fish to much.

I miss the days before they put in the new boat dock and the sandy beach. It used to be a quiet place (even on the weekends) but now Mantua lake is more like a mad house on the weekends.

I have been there a few times this year and yes there has been some days when the boat trailer parking is full and it seems a bit busy. But I have a large family and I really like it when they do "improvements" (my eyes maybe not yours) because not all my kids want to get out in the boat or fish.

I am just saying that my kids really like the beach at Mantua. I think the best thing is when the sun is starting to set there is shade on that beach and the pregnant wife and pregnant sister inlaw aren't complaining about the heat. Its a special Hell my life, but you gotta love it.

I noticed the sign on the ramp warning to stay out of the water because of Swimmer's Itch; however, I saw lots of people swimming. Is Swimmer's Itch hit or miss, or are some people susceptible to it and not others?

I think you answered your own question. I have heard that there are only certain times that the "itch" will get you and that some people are more imune than others. It's like the water version of poision ivy/oak.

Here is link I found using google.

My kids have swam there a few times this year. They are not generally known to not complain (they are 8, 4, 4, 2, and all girls). So I am sure that if it affected them I would have known about it.

Like you said you saw lots of people swimming and I am sure if most people were very concerned they would not have been in there. If it is your first time there you would be cautious but after you see all the locals in the water you would not take it to serious.
