Well FG gave this old boy fits this last go round. Actually it wasnt so much the pond or fish as it was my 75hp Johnson on Saturday and the W on Monday and Tuesday.
Day one (Saturday) was about as pretty a day as a person could hope for with just enough breeze from time to time to keep it comfortable. However, without the engine running right we were stuck tinkering with it most of the day so we didnt wet a line.
Day two came and with the engine running somewhat right we made a mad dash across Anvil bay about 7am. to hook up with the Mack Miner (John B.) and Jeff in their boats who we're hoverin' tight over a small sunken hump when we arrived. After saying our hello's and exchanging some newly made (this and thats) we joined the square dancing of boats tucked in tight over a small hump. Before long our little boat party consisted of 5 boats when Gary and Mell tucked their boats in close around the marker too. From the get-go Jeff seem to have the hot rod as far as the Koke catching but John was sure giving him a run for his money! But we all managed to hook up several times over the couple hours we dosy doed around the marker in our boats and all Koke were 3-4lbs. All fish were return except one I kept to chew on.. By 11am we'd all left the hump and we headed back to camp for mid day eats and coffee (or in 3M's case, tea, (YUCK!) lol.
Later we run back out and tried our luck at tickling the jaw of a few Mack with tubes but I only managed one tiny 2lb.dinker (released). WOW the mack seemed tight lipped for us this trip.
Monday started out breezy and it didnt let up, in fact, it got worse as the day wore on. We also found the Doo’ers about as lock jaw as they could get for those of us in the old red and white boat. About 6.30pm John slipped the nose his boat along side mine tide to shore. After we chewed the fat for several minutes we hopped aboard his ride and we headed south (so he could prove to me that he wasnt full of >it< lol!). He wasnt, the fish are there but we didnt bother to try and drop a line because of the W, but we're hoping the following morning would be claim enough to stay on top of them. FAT CHANCE!
Tuesday morning we started out like most that were fishing, trolling due to the W, and by 11am we bugged out without a taker.
All in all it was great weekend, after all, there far more to fishing than catching. We hooked a few fish to stretch our lines and spent quality time on the water with friends.
John; Thanks a bunch for all the GREAT advice!
