Had an interesting trip for sturgeon -- got extremely ill, storm blew over a tree that just missed our two tents, wind collapsed one tent (with John in it at the time) and the wind beached the boat. Missed both evenings of fishing, because of my illness the first evening and then the wind on the second evening. We still managed to catch 10 sturgeon, with the smallest being only a 41 inch minnow, and the largest going 75 inches. John & Val lost one each on long releases, and John had three others break off the leader. Found out that 50 pound Vanish fishing line doesn't make good sturgeon leader. All in all, despite the many disruptions, it was a great trip.

Good thing no one got hurt when the tree fell. Too bad about your sickness on the first day but at least you shook it off and was able to hook up with some nice size sturgeons. You are becoming a master at that sturgeon fishing.

It sure is no fun when some dumb little bug decides to "bite" you during an outdoor adventure! Hope you are feeling better. Any pics of the prehistoric critters?

[cool]Kent, that really sucks that you got sick, but what a great time that still must have been. Nice report and pics, guys! Perhaps I might be able to make next Spring's trip with you guys. Definitely looks like you know what you are doing up there, Kent, and that you are a great guide!

Hey Kent sorry to hear a bug jumped up a bit ya while you guys were up there, that sucks. I hate when one of those littler buggers tries to mess up a fishin' weekend. But its good to see you guys got into em. 10 living fossils to your ride aint nothing to sneeze at! Sweet!
Did you guys get any decent K's while there??

We never caught a cat. Highly unusual to not catch several mudcats and one or two channels. We did catch at least three smallmouth bass while fishing for sturgeon (go figure -- in the middle of The Snake) and I caught one pikeminnow.

Kent, John and others,
I tuned into this late so I'll probably ask dumb questions. First - those kind of happenings, at least for me, make it more memorable and actually better.[ ] Good on you guys. I love the pics.
After reading the posts I figured out you were on the Snake. I don't know if you remember my posts on the wonderful time I had smallie fishing there but looking at some of the pics. looks familiar. I know that it probably isn't possible but you weren't in the same area were ya? Part of the my story was the big surface splash out in the river while fishing. Lots of folks boat up to that area to fish for sturgeon. There's a lot of channel cats around too. Anyway I'm talking below Swan Falls??? By the quantity I'm suspecting it wasn't there.
Hey - don't bad mouth those river smallies!!!![mad] Get out there and try them. You might be surprised.[shocked]

Hey Fred, I won't bad mouth them river smallies, but if there are sturgeon to be caught I'm not interested in catching many smallies. We have taken a few breaks and fished for them up there before and there were times when we were able to catch a smallie on every cast. We weren't around Swan Falls (not totally sure exactly where that is, but we weren't there).
As far as those kind of memories making it better, some memories are fine, but I could do just fine without getting that ill again for a very long time. If I am too sick to fish, you can bet the farm that I am really sick. We also had a rod and reel fly overboard and sink to the bottom to never be found again -- so we have plenty of memories to treasure.
Amazingly, we had several sturgeon that jumped, on their own they were not hooked, right next to the boat. Almost on every trip, we see sturgeon jumping, but I have never seen them jump right next to the boat before. I love to see them jump, because it gets the heart pumping, and at least I know that there are some in the area that we are fishing. I can't recall ever seeing sturgeon jumping near us and not catching a few.
