Cabelas' Fish Inventory missing a rising Utah star!!!
#1
Went to Cabelas and was deeply enthused by its huge aquarium cave. I saw lots of different species, including the northern pike but there is one most important species of all time... the infamous sabertoothed freshwater amphibian called WALLEYE and it's not being showcased! Cabelas just committed a major cardinal sin!!![shocked]

Look a litle closer by the sunken boat. I 5 lber is laying usally on the bow of it. The rep from cabelas took 20 from the classic to put in the tamks.

I found three walleye when I went through the aquacave. There were two small ones in with the trout and one slightly larger one in with the bass.

Damn... they must have been really reclusive... I didn't see any. I guess if they are there, they must be hiding inside the log with the other huge cats, or behind the boat. I was really searching them out, I went in the middle of the day, and they must be nocturnal...

Naw their just a wee gun shy. Wait for a cloudy day with a little chop on the water at the top of the tanks and you'll see em near the mud line [Wink]

Alright, after you and fairwayphilly pointed out there are indeed walleyes at the fishcave... I had to take my little 3 year old girl with me to see for sure since it's only a 13 minute drive on the 15.

Last time I was there it was on that unofficial opening day in August... ok well it was my 2nd time at Cabelas today, and I saw plenty of walleyes sulking on the bottom right in plain view! I inquired when they were put in, and they said before the official grand opening so dat's why I didn't see 'em.

It is way cool to see 'em and study their behavioral traits. There are two aquarium in the cave and they are so cool to see the warm water and cold water behavorial traits. The bass side, you see the walleyes suspending because of warmer water, and then the trout side, they hug the bottom because of the cooler water! Very interesting to see each and all the other fishes' behavior are such a huge contrast that of the walleye.

Thanks for pointing out there are walleyes in Cabelas! It was worth $3 per gallon to learn something cool.[cool]

Paul, in addition to the walleye in the tanks, they have spinner rigs, bottom bouncers, Lindy rigs, jigs, and most other eye catching items...

Also, they do not have a northern pike in there it is a tiger muskie. Verticle bars and the scent glans under the jaw say it is a muskie. Did you get a chance to watch them feed the tanks? They ffed them with live fingerlings! Way cool to see!

I want to see the feeding show. What time do they feed the fish?

After what I heard about the weekends, I went the middle of last week after work and didn't have to wait in line anywhere and didn't have to do any combat shopping I heard they were doing the weekend before. I'm going during the week from now on and using my weekends to try out the merchandise.

I went around six or so. Call them and ask. I am sure they will tell you the exact time.

On the topic of Northern vs. Tiger Muskellunge sighting in Cabelas... I thought it looked more like a northern because a tiger has green/white lines (like that of a tiger usually found in Africa), and Cabelas has more of a green/white spots. I am more than willing to bet that Cabelas got that from Redmond.

Ok, I'm going to chime in. I like the tanks but I'm a bit dissappointed too. Only 2 small non-impressive lmb anywhere to be found. I was hoping to see a great number of giant bucketmouths cruising around but the tank was dominated by smallmouths. I'd trade seeing a giant lmb over a giant brown.

the tank looks great! I have a large amount of experience with large fish tanks and to get a coldwater tank that looks like that is a real accomplishment. The only thing Cabela's needs is to be a little more selective when getting fish to put in. You don't see mounts that were raised on a ranch and have an ear tag in them. Why do they have a ton of rainbows with rounded fins that look nothing like the wild rainbows that are out there.

Give them time. Maybe over time they will remove a few of the ugly ones and add a few bucketmouths.
