Boil hopping @ Willard ... 9-8-05
#1
[black]Bait_Caster, BC's neighbor and his new trophy boat, his neighbor's son, and I, decided to hit Willard last evening for some boil action before the wind picks up this weekend. Just as it has been for me the last few recent trips out there, some decent, but short, boils have been developing around 7:00-8:00 PM. And, just at sundown, just about anywhere you are on the lake, the wipers are up near the surface flipping their tails. We were concentrating on an area about a mile N-W of the island (basically out in the middle). Tossing 1/4 oz. Kastmasters was the hot ticket last night. Tried casting the 1/8 oz. but found that they are just too small for long distance casting. The color of the Kastmasters we had best success on were the ones that are half crome and half blue. I suspect that the boils will start to slow down in a couple weeks now. But it is sure fun when they are on.[/black]

[cool]Nice wipers, coot, and nice report as well. Sounds like I'd better get some kastmasters to add to my arsenal. I'm very glad to be moving to Layton next week, 'cause I'll be closer to Willard! I've gotta get out there soon before the indian summer bite gets over with.

Those darn things can sure be picky. We were out there too and only got a pair of wipers well before they started boiling. I threw everything except a castmaster, my trolling motor and my fishing partner into those boils and couldn't even get a hit. My partner would have been next but the boils quit too soon. I hope the walleye turn on after this storm, I'm aikin' for some fillets and a home cooked shore lunch.
