Well, I made it. When I tried to edit my last post and update the info on it, I hit post and somehow my 500 word essay dissapeared, so, I deleted it. I didn't have anymore time or I would have gotten there after dark. Besides, the hounds were pestering me relentlessly to get out of the house.
I got up to E-Lake about 4 pm and tossed out my 2 minnow traps and rigged up and started to fish with a crawler under a float. Nothing - not even a bite. I checked the traps after about an hour and then checked the traps - pulled in one trap and there was only 3 minnows even though I could see hordes or them swimming around it. Pulled in the second one and half the trap was gone to the depths where I couldn't see it. Dissapointed, I reeled in my line and there was a minnow on it - it swallowed the worm and hook and I had to discect it to get my hook - a size 6. So, I put on a size 14 dry fly hook and a piece of crawler and was able to pull in 4 more minnows that way. A very slow day.
The next morning, I got up at sunrise and after the steam cleared from the lake and the water was gin clear and I saw the other half of my trap. I put on the only treble hook I had - a panther martin spinner and casted it untill I snagged it and brought it in. I was one happy camper ! I loaded it up again and tossed both of the traps where I was the schools and decided to try the spinner casting for trout while I waited.
On about the 4th cast I got a small 11 inch cutthroat. Put it on the stringer for lunch and checked the traps. One trap had about 2 dozen minnows in it - the other had nothing. Tossed them out again and casted for a while. Got a couple of followers then nothing for an hour or so. Then, another cutthroat decided to hit my lure and I reeled in a 13 incher. After stringing that one up for dinner, on my first cast I got a 9 inch rainbow and released the dink to grow some more. That was it for Wednesday - the rest of the day was for the hounds.
Thursday, I got up again at sunrise and tossed the traps out again, and continued casting the spinner. I got a 12 inch cutthroat right off and strung it up.
Checked the traps and nothing. What is wrong with whole wheat bread ? Are minnows not health conscience ? It was the only bread I brought - doh ! Then I tried to fly cast with a size 18 dry for minnows. They tapped it a hundred times but no takers - just teasers.
Went back to casting the spinner and immediately got another 13 inch cutthroat for the stringer. After fruitlessly checking the traps again and only getting 1 minnow in one trap and 2 tiny minnows in the other, I gave up on the traps. As I was breaking camp, I decided to cast a few more times before derigging everything to come home, and I got a 14 inch cuttroat to bring home.
Total for the trip - 7 minnows on Tuesday. 2 cutts and 1 bow and 2 dozen minnows on Wednesday. 3 minnows and 3 cutthroats on Thursday.
I did remember this time to bring the camera and to take photos of everything - including some fantastic scenery. I will post them in a subsequent post to this thread as soon as I finnish unpacking and get them transfered to this computer.
Great trip - although way shorter than I had originally hoped for(one of my hounds got really sick so I had to cut it short.
Wooohooo ! photos are in my second post - down below.
