[mad][#500000]A California atheist who has fought for years to have the words "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools won a major legal battle on Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton ruled in favor of atheist Michael Newdow, deciding that the reference to God in the pledge violates the rights of children in three California school districts to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God,"
Karlton made his ruling based on the precedent set by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled in Newdow's favor in 2002 with a decision that stated the pledge is unconstitutional when recited in public schools.

[green]Okay so what do you think? Me? Well it ticks me off that federal judges have so much power and can interpret the laws to suit their personal beliefs. I wonder if the judge had prayed to God for help in making his ruling?[/green]

You have good reason to be ticked off Dryrod. I can't comprehend how the wording of one nation under god is unconstatutional. I can only hope this is a CA. thing. We'er becoming a nation of special interest coddeling and have forgotten the majority.

I'm not pleased. The first ammendment never intended to remove any divine messages from government, just to prevent government from mandating a state religion. Why don't they ban money too. It has had the word God on it for over a cetury. Our nation, like all nations, had a divine allowance when it was formed. That's what the founders believed, that's what the pledge sys, that should stand. If you don't agree, don't participate.

Doesn't it violate our rights to freedom of religion? I for one like the reference "One Nation Under God!" Maybe its time for the silent majority to weigh in on this issue. I believe you're right Dryrod, judges have way to much power of interpretation.

well if he is a true atheist then I ask how he could aford to pay for the court cost to have the pledge removed from a class room,

it is strange that every other religeon who dosnt like what the schools are teaching do home schooling or privet schooling. why couldnt he?

if he is an atheist then I say he can send me evry thing in his possesion that resembles god. that includes his money. funny how he has no objections to excepting that in to his house hold...

I have yet to see an athiest complain about getting a $20.oo god peice unless they wanted a bigger $ god peice or more of them....

to some the all mighty $ is their god. I wonder if this is his case... and he dosnt like sharing his god with any one... [sly]

sorry for making fun about him, I do wonder about how the rest of his life goes, dose he refuse to take his christmas bonus from his job? I do wonder why so much envey and jellousy about a 32 second attention ataining pratice that mentions god and why his kid couldnt deliver the attendance sheets to the office during that period?

not many people relize that the pledge was put in place to gain pupils attention in the morning and realy had nothing to do about the preaching of god. God was thrown in to thow clout to the pratice because no one wanted to be the one to be abusive to a pleadge with the word god in it. Yes it phycologic pratice but it worked with out having to take tha abusive yard stick to gain some ones unruely behavure.

I feal sorry for the kids sake, because he will loose the lesson that is taught by this morning pratice... It is aperrent that he never learned this lesson.

I do find that the schools short commings in not teaching all the religions and exceptance of all religeons and the no religion of some kind of a short comming on their part. What I realy mean is with out it how can any one make an informed disision, which makes me wonder if this guy has that much distrust in his own kid to make disisions for him or her self as the case may be....

My opinion if you share that is cool and if you dont thats ok too. but you cant deny that there isnt some truth to what I say.... weather you belive in god or not...

I beleive in what he paid he could have kept the kid at home and paid for a privet tutor untill he could have fully forced his beleifs on his children.

Teach your childern how to think, not what to think. the opisite of this teaches hate and mistrust in the world between different peoples of the world. I wonder how his kid is going to deal with other countries of the world in his adulthood when he cant tollerate saying the word god in a morning pleadge, there are many religeons in countries and in many countries only one relegion and it is an insult to them if you dont reconize thier belieifs and pay do respect.

It makes me wonder what he is setting his kid up for... cirtianly not the job of "presidant of the united states".
