Mantua 9-17-05... I hate the wind!!!
#1
Garbageman jr, porkchop ( A soon to be new member ) and I hit mantua on the tubes today. Right off I scored a 2 lb lmb on a Maniac Reaper. Then jr scored one as well. Bass fishing was slower than weeks past, but the blue gill and Perch fishing was as good as ever. Had a good day till the wind started up.
CBR, bassackwards...I was working my way over to say hi and check out the hot spot when the wind kicked up, I guess I will catch you guys another time, but it was nice to put a voice to the name. Sounded like you guys were having a blast! Sorry to hear about the equipment ( Creel ) problem.

[cool]Nice report and pics, garbageman. I was invited to be with CBR and bassackwards, but I had to move. Sounds like they had a good and successful time too. I've gotta hit that lake before ice on.

Good to meet you over the radio too. It's too bad that your buddies wouldn't come tow you. Friends, sheesh. Smile

I ended up with over 40 perch, average 10 inches biggest just 1/8th inch short of 12 inches. There are some really good perch in there, and loads. When they would school through my sonar would go completely black. Caught 9 bluegill, all the bluegill were big, had one 11 incher and the rest were around 9-10 inches. I also managed a nice 13-14 inch rainbow. Great day minus the wind. The morning bite was fierce.

Garbageman, I heard you and Porkchop on the radio. Sounded like you were into the fish all day. I have fished Mantua for 4 days in the past 2 weeks and yesterday was the worst wind I faced. It is hard to stay put on a pontoon in the wind, even with an anchor. We would find a good spot only to get blown out of it in a matter of a few minutes. When we did stay put, the fishing was non stop. I had a real tough time staying on the bottom and I think that is why I didn't catch many Perch. We caught a lot of big Bluegills though. I hope that Mantua will be good to us this winter and not like it was last winter. I don't now why it was so hard to catch fish through the ice last year. I guess only time will tale.

Yeah, we had a good time except for the wind. I think some time in the next few weeks, I am going to mark some of those deep open holes and weed bed edges by gps. I think thats gonna be the key to success this winter.

Good idea. I marked two spots from my last trip. If you get some more lets make a trade. You can't have too many spots to try on the ice.
