Fished Bear Lake Sunday and Tuesday. Caught 7 and 8 repectively. Only caught 3 cuts total both days the biggest being 5.5 lbs. The rest were Mack. My son caught a 15 lb and I caught a 12.5 lb mack on sunday. On Tuesday me and my Dad went out he caught 5 and I caught 3. This in itself made his day but when he caught a mack weighing 10 lbs then another one weighing 10.3 lbs he was really tickled. All mack caught were over 5 lbs. All fish were released except for a 4 lb cut my dad kept for dinner. Not very many boaters out which is refreshing. all and all not a bad time.[cool]

Well done. I still have yet to catch myself a mack that isn't a planter. May I ask what you were using?

[black]Nice, Jeff! If the weather will hold out, I'm hoping to get out Friday. I talked to a friend of mine that went out last Friday and also did pretty good with the largest going 14.5 lbs. They had 4 fish over 8 lbs. They never hit the water til 9:00 am and were off the water by 3:00 pm.[/black]

Congrats on a great trip and thanks for reporting! Also, a big THANK YOU for not keeping all of those big lakers! Too many get taken out of there each year. If people only knew how old those fish really were I think it would really shock them. Congrats again, Jake

Jake, I totally agree with you. I never keep any of the mack and will only keep 1 or 2 cuts if I plan on eating them that night. There are way to many people that feel they need to take a trophy home to show there buddies then let it set in the freezer a year and through it out. It is estimated that a 15 lb mack in bear lake is between 16-20 years old.

Keep all the cuts you want. Utah keeps planting those, but I heard they stopped planting the lakers because they are not native. So thanks again to all who turn them back.

[black]Last time I talked to BLFG, he told me that mackinaw would soon be plated in Bear Lake again. I guess that they have finally found a reliable way to sterilize the fry. Hey, Scott! Can you fill us in on this? Thanks![/black]

[black]Whether or not they plant lakers is mute though. As has been stated on this board many times, for the larger lakers in BL to mature, it takes many years to become BL trophies. In my opinion, harvesting those big fish is a sin. I wish the DWR would put size restrictions, like the Gorge, and allow anglers to either keep only one fish over a certain length of release any fish over a certain length. The big lakers in BL are it's major draw to most fisherman and the numbers of large fish should be sustained.[/black]

Kurt, just a little heads up. I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that you should start out in the morning on the east side by the scout camp and fish around south eden point to cisco and back. Work that area until around noon then head over to the west side start 1/2 mile south of gus point troll about 1/2 mile north of rock pile. I've had good success using this procedure. Good luck and let me know how you guys do. Thanks
