Bear Lake - 9/23/05
#1
[black]Petty and I headed for the Bear this morning and found the lake flat and calm. The ride through the Canyon is a royal pain though with the road construction. The road is completely torn up from Logan Canyon Summit to Bridgerland Village. Man, its going to be nice when it's done![/black]

[black]We headed out to Gus' Point and did a little jigging. We moved a couple times and luckily got into a few fish before the 11:30 am winds hit and blew us off the lake. We managed 5 fish total, 4 macks and one cutt. The largest fish was about 7 lbs. All fish were released.[/black]

[black]Petty quite enjoyed the trip back as the wind blew the waves back into the boat and gave him the sorely need shower he needed! LOL! I don't think he'd ever been in water like that. WiperHunter2 and Wiperslayer were also on the lake. They'll have to tell you about their fun ride back to the marina. They came off a couple of waves and darn near went vertical![/black]

thats too bad you got blown off. I have heard alot of people say the wind at flaming gorge is dangerous and swamped alot of boats. I have been in some strong winds at the gorge and it doesn't even hold a candle to Bear Lake. What do you think BLM. Did you guys try trolling at all in the morning?

[black]I think either place can blow like a big dog when it decides to. They've both have impressed me at one time or another! Today wasn't as bad as I have seen it but it was rolling pretty good.[/black]

[black]I didn't troll. Not much of a troller, I guess. Some day I'll have bum a ride with you and see how its done. Wiperhunter and Wiperslayer trolled for a few hours on the west side. I don't believe they hooked up though.[/black]

I would have loved to have been up there fishing no matter the weather! Not only did I have to work today but with the financial status lately the wife is working tommorow so we will be enjoying yet our third weekend this year away from the big blue pond. Making payments on something that we are starting to not be able to use really blows! Gas prices are killing me!

Glad you both had a fun and safe day, talked to petty a couple times but I couldn't understand what he was saying due to my jealous ears wanting to be there as well!

Typical stuff typical locations???????

[black]Started in 80 ft of water and moved in from there. There were fish at all depths. I was using various tubes. Petty was using a roadrunner head with a tube most of the day.[/black]

I would bet that the tubes would be best from here on out. Probably why I poured extra in anticipation????

Sounds like a good trip Rich. I always love the never ending drive through Logan Canyon. I'm pretty sure every time I drive that road, I get 2 years older!

You are so right my friend that was some boat ride back to the marina. At least twice, 3/4 of the boat was out of the water before we came crashing down into the next wave. We were drenched by the time we got back. I know you might not agree with me on this but there were a couple of waves that were 5 ft deep. We had just been drenched once again when I looked up and saw the next wave that was coming, it was the height of the windshield. At that point we were at the bottom of the wave, when we hit the top, I thought we were flying.
Pat,we were planning on stopping to catch some suckers for bait outside the marina but that wind was howling at us, telling us not to try it, so we went in and called it a day.
Jeff, we tried trolling for a while but never made it to the East side, we were marking so many fish at Gus point we thought we could catch a few for sure. From the marks on the fish finder we could see the fish come up and check out the lures but we had no takers. It was a exciting day on the water. Here is a couple of pictures from the lake with the colors changing on the hillside.

Thanks Jeff, at least we got to do some fishing in morning before the wind came up but you are right there is always next time. The forecast was for the storm to come in later in the day but you know how those weather men are. This trip cost $66.00 in gas, if the price of gas goes up like they say it might we will have to pick our next trip a little more careful. It makes me wish I lived as close to the lake as you do. How far of a trip to the lake is it for you?

The price of gas really does suck. My old 77 dodge just gets 9 mpg[Sad] It is 18 miles from my house to the marina it cost close to 35-40 dollars in gas per trip counting the boat and how many times I cruise across the lake with the main motor. My trolling motor is a 9.9 so it doesn't use hardly any. I think this gas price bull is just that bull. The 5 main oil companies are posting record gains imagine that. Also whats funny or Sad depending on how you look at it did anyone notice that after Katrina price per barrel went up 3 dollars the price at the pump went up 30 cents the very next day. As of yesterday the price per barrel is below pre Katrina levels but the price at the pump hasn't budged. Tell me what the hells up with that.[mad]Just venting.

I agree with you totally Jeff, those gas companies should be fined for gouging. If the price of gas can move up that fast, then it should move down just as fast.
